Nuts, bolts and hardware

This maybe a simple question but I've been searching for the right size and grade nuts and bolts etc. Most of the reccomended hardware comes from the donor car. I'm not using a donor car and most of the factory parts are obsolete. I just tried to get new hardware to bolt my AOD trans to my Ford 302 and the dealer parts person told me that the parts were obsolete and couldn't even tell me the size.
Is there a book somewhere's that lists all of the hardware sizes for a given manufacturer's drive train or certain model car?
Any info will help. I've already ordered a catalog from ARP.

Find a commercial nut and bolt supply warehouse in your area. Most of them will sell cash at the will call desk. They have everything you can dream of and then some. If you ask them to provide an assortment of sizes they can if you give them some guidelines. Range of diameter sizes, length and thread type. Get everything in grade 8 cadmium plated or alloy. They are cheap when you buy from a supply house. When you go back for the second time you will know exactly what you need to finish.

7/16 - 14 for the bell housing to block on a 302, check the length and go to a good hardware store and get grade 5 or 8 bolts & use SAE washers under the heads. You need to learn alot more about hardware if you are going to build a car, good luck.
