Default Halon "Test"

My Grandmother always said that, "It's better to be silent and thought a fool, than speak and remove the doubt"......Oh well, that was before the internet.

There I was, alone in the garage nearing the end of my 11 year build. I had saved the install of my Halon push cable for the very end, to avoid an accidental discharge.

The car had been together prior to paint, this was the final assembly after paint for a long planned trip to wine country via Sears Point raceway (to drive Audi's, not the Cobra). As I pushed the cable home, safety clip in place, I experienced the wallet draining hiss of Halon spraying into the engine compartment and trunk. The good news is that, just as advertised, Halon leaves no residue. It did freeze a portion of my nice new Wilton Wool trunk carpet, but it defrosted nicely. We made the trip on time and all is well, except maybe my wallet and ego.

Jon,

Nice to hear that it didn't cause any big damage. I have a pull ring on mine because I am so uncoordinated that I figured if I had a push set up I would manage to hit it when the pin was out someway.

You aren't the first to set off the fire suppression system by accident. I read about a guy who had bought a brand new Porsche and it had all the latest as he was going to race it. He was taking his son for a ride and the kid decided to see what the pretty red handle with the clip did. He removed the clip and pulled the knob while the guy was doing about 75MPH. He said it never hurt anything but scared the crap out of him.
