Exhaust heatshields
I am thinking about getting some exhaust heat shields & was wondering if they make much of a difference. They are pretty close to the actual pipes & I am sure they will get hot too.
Thanks!

Save your money. They get just as hot. Tell passengers to not get out till you come around to assist. As for your self, you get burned once and you never forget again. Regards Carmine

They do get as hot, but they cool off quicker. Certainly not quick enough to get out of the car without care, but quicker than the regular pipes.

I will have to disagree with carmine. I had BDR #123 with side pipe shields and I could come in from a drive and put my hand on the shields and the were very warm/hot to the touch but would not cause a burn.

Have to agree with David...they DO indeed get hot and you CAN get burned, but not hot enough to give you the REALLY damaging burns that straight sidepipes do!

I am wondering if the louvered shields would dissapate the heat quicker?

The louvered ones with all the holes cut out are the ones I have. Couple of my gallery pics show them.

I got mine from finishline. They have worked great. My legs are short and slow so it takes me a bit to get out of the car. No more burns no matter how long it takes me. I still have the scars from the first burns, and I might add my last........

I have a set of solid ceramic coated shields. There's a definate improvement with them on. BUT, I think they're a little short. They leave a little too much of the end of the pipe expeosed. One of these days - in my copious free time - I'm going to do something about that.

If the proper technique is used for getting in and out of the car, your leg won't ever get close enough to the pipes.
Until you open the hood and start messing around under there. Heat shields don't work for that anyways.

Ya I figure you will most likely get burned at some point if you own a Cobra... All my friends have been burned ..not me yet but I thought I was pretty smart till I opened my hood and being a dummy rested my arm on my upper rad hose and experienced a beautiful burn ...so moral of the story is BE CAREFUL and tell all that come around your car the same!

I have the heat shields with hundreds of tiny holes and they cool down very quickly. So i'd say they do add some protection. Cause no matter how many times you tell others to watch the pipes someone will always forget.

I had shields and I can say that they definatly work. They do get hot but a bare pipe burns as soon as you touch it,and with the shield not .

They do work. I like the look. I did get them - but not for me. I just couldn't imagine my friends, wife or kids getting seriously burned. Do a search here - there are some pretty scary pictures of some very serious burns.

Mine work really well. You have to install it using the kevlar strips to insulate it from the sidepipes, and as far back as possible. I've had a few shrieks from passengers but no burns.

I have the perferated SS heat shealds from Finishline. They get warm when the car is just sitting running , they are warm and in traffic and normal driving they are warm. I have burnt my ankle and scorched my pants on the bare pipes but never on the heat sheilds. The heatsheild temps will varry with the heat from the sidepipes and outside air temperature and flow over them. They are a clamp on deal, so it's not a life changing decision. You may want to change some of the hardware I used a lot of jam nuts to lock things up. Ny-locks and heat are not going to work. Self locking nuts(where the nuts are distorted) and stainless steel screws don't work . The soft stainless steel will gall ( transfer material) and then lock up permantly.

I appreciate the info Mike! Thanks. I am still debating about them, but will probably get them. Right now I am waiting on my new Clutch master so I can drive my baby! Tired of seeing her in the garage!
