Default building an engine test stand

As my motor nears completion, I've been contemplating building a test stand. I need suggestions for a fuel tank. My motor is fuel injected and needs a return line. I definitely don't want to buy an expensive fuel cell just to make my little stand. Suggestions?

thanks.
phil

Phil, I did the same thing some years ago and just used a 5 gal gas can. I didn't need a return line but I don't see why one couldn't be used the same way. I used a rubber type plug with a hole and a piece of steel fuel line through it as a pick-up and I would think that a return line done the same way would work fine.

Hope that helps, Steve

P.S. How did you get your H/M VCs? I called Lee about them, he said that he'd send me a cataloge, and I havn't heard from him since.

Hey Phil,
You and Steve are on track with a small gas can. Just a couple of things to think about or rather things that have bit me in the butt over time. Do not let the inlet of fuel pump get blocked, cut a few notches on the end of hose so it can not stick/suck to any surface. Placing return hose end so always submerged will greatly reduce fumes created. A vent hose out of fuel can run away from an open header collector flames is a good thing.

A radiator is needed on your test stand because coolant temp is monitored by your injection. A bucket works but makes a real mess and is a little dangerous when you blirp the throttle hot water can splash out of bucket. ENJOY !!!

OBTW... make sure your thermostat is in the right direction... the back pressure can be pretty significant and if a hose lets loose, look out...

Seems pretty funnny now but the 'what ifs' that didn't occur with the steam and fluids and a couple of guys standing around close looking at the gauges really isn't...

Steve-
maybe I got lucky, but I just called H/M and ordered them. They're Blue Thunder comp style castings...pretty spendy...about $400. I still needed extra thick gaskets from DSC to clear my Erson setup.
