Side Curtains - How'd ya do it?

I am putting a soft top and side curtains onto my Hurricane build. There are three ferrule sockets that go in the door to accept the side curtain.

The thickness of the door, with the inner skin, is about 1 1/2" The ferrules I've found are 1 1/4" - 1 3/8" under the head. Curious how others installed the sockets into their doors, I know Hurricane isn't the only car with the door liners.

ERA instructions show using a snapring on the ferrule - their doors must be substantially thinner along the top edge.

Open to any ideas, pictures would be great.

Paul...just be aware that the ferrules are simply trim items. Ok for cosmetic, but I would think you need more support than just them thru 'glas to hold the side curtains.

On the originals, even with a metal door skin, the ferrules were inserted into metal tubes that were part of the inner door frame.

Ron,
The ERA instructions show them going thru both skins, getting a "double-purchase" which should be OK. Clamping on just the outer skin would be inviting trouble.

That leaves me with probably having to form some type of counterbore. Won't be easy since the door is already bonded together.

Maybe a fiberglass tube to accept the ferrule and a bigger tube to house the nut on the inside. Just thinking out loud

I think the top flange of the tube just sits on top of the door Paul.

You could do what I'm doing; use a tube frame like the originals have and skin the frame with the outer part of the glass door. Then you could weld tubes to hold the ferrules on the steel frame.
Lot of work but doors are one of those things that always bug me about glass replicas.

The ferrule body goes all the way through the door and fastens by a ring clip at the bottom. The head of the ferrule sits just above the body panel. They are not overly tight - you can wiggle them, you can rattle them. All six of them (three on each door) are done the same way. Here's how they look from the top, from the bottom, and with a pencil placed through them.

On my Unique they just are set in place with a little silicone.
No problem with over 13K and some 120mph 1/4 mile passes.

Budds Creek make me run my top and side curtains for some reason then they kick me off the track for going to fast.
