Default Harness for a Toddler?

Hi,

I would get a lot more use out of my car if there was a safe way to buckle in my 3 1/2 year old.

My current shoulder harness is just huge. Most booster seats are designed to be used with a traditional diagonal seat belt.

Any Ideas?

If not, I guess I have to wait a few years until he packs on a few pounds.

I have been looking for options too. so far my boy is still scared of the car because of the sound, but he says that he will be ready for a ride soon. My best plan so far is to buckle in a booster with it's own built in belts, that way I can snug the seat down with the large belts but he will still have the smaller kid-sized belts.

What do the laws say about strapping a toddler in a 2 seater?
My 2 year old wants to go for a ride soo bad, but I haven't taken him, except a quick spurt around the block.
Is it permitted to strap a child seat on the passenger side?

I suspect that children are not normally allowed in the front seat because of the airbag could injure them. I don't think that would apply in your case.

I am pretty sure that the law allows for car seats in the passenger seat as long as there are no back seats in the car as with a standard cab truck.

Although not preferred children are permitted in the passenger's seat provided you can deactivate the airbag (not applicable for us).

My son is just about at the 40 pound mark and this is when they switch to a booster seat with a regular seatbelt so this is my problem. It will be years before he grows into my harness so I need something in the interim.

my daughter is 8 and i place a patio furniture type of cushion on the seat first to get some bulk to use the 5 point on her. the type of cushion that has a back and a seat sewn together. works well. you can place an extra pillow under them also for extra height if the lap portion won't adjust smaller. i tried the booster seat but it puts the top of her head above the windshield.
