alternator issue...

I want to use a one-wire internally regulated alternator, and could use some guidance as to how to do this, and what to look out for.

Google mad electrical and check out their website it has some real great info on 1 and three wire alt's and a bunch of other wiring issues and tip's.

jschroff Jim check out both of these places. You will also need to make sure the wiring will handle a 100 amp Alt. Also get a voltmeter for the car. The amp meters like the orignial WILL not handle this kind of current. Smith gauges is now sell volt meters. It's in the latest Kit Car Mag. IMO 3 wire is better that 1 wire. Jim, when I purchased my car it was equipped with a chrome one-wire alternator (probably the most popular for hot rods, mods etc.) Mine stopped charging some while back and I finally got around to replacing it. It was about $130 for a 100 amp unit with shipping from California. The outfit I bought it from builds them so that they start charging at a low RPM. One of the folks at their shop actually called me to talk about the application and ensure the configuration I ordered was right prior to shipping, which impressed me. Everything works great now. Their site is: www.qualitypowerauto.com. It worked for 10 years before it gave up the ghost. Can't beat a one-wire for simple install.
