Cobra Owners Preferred Engine Oil Brand?
Just curious on what brand of engine oil is most popular with our street performance motors? I figure after a list of 20 or so, there should be a "winner". The weight is not a concern - that should be dictated by your local climate. Please chime in with your oil brand gang and thanks!

Brad Penn, and I dump a bottle of the old GM EOS supplement, which I squirreled away a case of before they discontinued/changed it a few years back. I'm sure it's not necessary for the health of my solid flat tappet, but I do it nonetheless.

I guess I don't see this Cobra engine as any different than any other engine I've owned or built and I've always been partial to Valvoline in all of my engines. Once in awhile I'll use Quaker state and Pennzoil in a pinch, but usually Valvoline 5W-30 wins out.
Now that I'll be running flat tappets, I'll have to add a ZDDP additive at every change, but that is chump change to insure reliable performance and life of the cam/lifters.

All but one, that is... and you can't break that one in with Rotella. But, fortunately, you have the two bottles of liquid gold that I sent you....

It will get Rotella after it's broken in. During break-in, it will get Joe Gibbs or Brad Penn, and nothing else....
Your "liquid gold" went into my lawnmower.

Old thread went into more detail. Might be under lead being reduced in most oil. Was a big concern with ZO6 corvette which uses Mobil one. I go on corvette forum all time since I have ZO6. Joe Gibbs, Brad Penn, Valvoline racing, all ok.

BRAD PENN straight 30. Expensive but well worth it! Got it off ebay for the best price. Pretty hot in Ga. right now and it does just fine. I'll sleep better knowing it's got the Zinc that will keep my none roller motor purring!

Keith Craft and I both recommend Job Gibbs Racing Hot Rod Oil. The latter recommendation being the more important one.

Another Brad Penn user
I use Brad Penn 15W-40. I want to make sure I have good flow thru the oil lines too. Might switch to 20W-50 to achieve a slightly higher oil pressure; never below 40psi now.

My new engine came with Joe Gibbs motor oil for break-in. I'll be changing it soon for Chevron Delo.

OK, it's not "in" a Cobra, but it is a genuine 1966 289 Hi-Po engine. The same engine that WAS in the original small block Cobras:
Mobil 1 15w-50. No additives needed. Over the past 10 years I've put 44,000+ miles on it. Many of them at high speed for extended periods. No measurable wear, no leaks & great oil pressure.
