438 SBF how much power did it make?
 
I would like to share the results of an engine recently built by Jim Kuntz (kuntz & Company). He sent me the results after we had had a long discussion on cylinder head runner volume, and port velocity. I will post the dyno sheet, but first take a guess on what it made??

This engine is a 438 SBF (4.100 x 4.125), 11.5 compression, and dynoed on 92 octane. All parts are off the self! This engine is being placed in a street car and will happily idle at 1100.

Induction Parts list includes Jims Victor Heads (Valves 2.15 1.6 stainless) T&D Rockers (1.7 ratio), Super Victor Stage Intake (gasket matched only), 850 QF, Solid Roller Cam 262 270 750 lift 108LS (ramps, medium aggressive) Crower Sever Duty lifters, and Moroso Vacuum Pump,

Short Block consist of Dart Block, Eagle Crank and Rods.

It will make more power than you will ever use.
I question 11.5 with 92 octane, particularly when summer comes.

Maybe for most, but not for some. :D:D

Can't disagree, however; i believe the intent is show what the engine would do on 92 octane, and we both know this is not a daily driver ;)

I'll wager a guess and say whatever the dyno says it will be a bunch. Sounds like a good combination of parts and specs. 716hp with more compression and good gas.

I was fascinated by the performance of those Engine Masters competitors when they first started getting wide publicity. But then I started noticing all the high rise intakes, electric water pumps, vacuum pumps, and high flowing exhaust systems. Then I realized that building an engine for a dyno competition is not the same as building one for the track or the street. Yes, some of the parts and technology have street application, but otherwise its a lot like comparing a Pikes Peak car to a street car.

Tommy with all do respect your wrong. The engine is not designed for masters competition. Far from it. The cam is used in Jims dirt track engines. The pistons are off the self. The rockers are 1.7

A vacuum pump will do just fine in this application as long as it has a good oil supply. ( its not a daily driver)

I have personally used both elect water pumps and super victors on street cars. My last cobra engine had a super victor.

How about cobra with a elect pump and a super victor.:D

Ok guys,,,, these heads are 15 degree victors with a 2.15 1.6 values and 295cc runners. they move a lot of air!!!!!. Going to have to guess higher.

I can understand why you incorrectly jumped to the conclusion that my comments were about your engine. But that's not what I said. I stand by my opinion. .... BTW, the engine in that photo would not fit under the hood of my Cobra replica.

If it were a GM LS engine of the same CID, it would be around 700-750 on gas and well over 800 on E85. I would guess your should be in the same ballpark?

Tommy the pictures i posted are not my engines.
Care to elaborate on what u actually meant??? If u are saying this engine is not practical to be in a street car i totally agree with u, however; neither is the one i have in my cobra (picture), but i still drive it on the street, its legal, and its not far behind this one in power. :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes: "maybe i need a new set of Kuntz's Victor Heads"

The whole point of the post was to show what power can be made without using exotic parts. Not saying a new cobra owner needs one.

It's a nice engine. Let us know how it runs on the street at 140F:) And the first time you get it to running temperature and because it is idling at 1100 you shut it off and it detonates and your $20k engine runs backwards....

100LL at the a/p was $4.64-4.84 a few days ago.

Why couldn't this engine run on 93? Only 11.5:1 and enough camshaft to bleed off some cylinder pressure and it shouldn't be a big deal.

Re: idle rpm, it's pretty easy to pull down the rpm on the clutch before shutting down. I do it in my FE Cobra without even thinking about it anymore.
