I'm sure many would not agree with me but being that the majority of us have replicas I would not have an issue with a GM engine. Just how many have replicas with Ford manufactured engine and no aftermarket components? Look at my engine for instance. Other than dimensionally the only part on my engine that is produced by Ford is the thermostat housing. Dart block, eagle rotating assembly, diamond pistons, Brodix heads, msd ignition, edelbrock intake, etc. It is also a small block in lieu of a big block. If replica manufacturers offered mounts, headers, etc. for alternate engines such as GM, I wonder how many non-Ford Cobra Replicas would exist. That being said I would love to see some GM powered Cobra Replicas!! Bring it!!

Agree, I went in a similar direction with my dart block. There is some great work out there in the GM arena that should be showed.

Footnote, the continuation cars coming out of SAI are rollers with customer choice of motor and transmission. Would a chevy powered automatic CSX 4000 series car still be considered a "genuine Cobra" per SAAC definition of SAI continuation cars? I do not believe there is SAI fine print that states motor must be ford and transmission a standard.

Let's see those nice GMs.

It's not old school but my Cobra is Chevy powered. It's and LS6 with a Tremec 6 speed, C5 Diff converted to take a drive shaft with 3:42 gears, and C5 Corvette suspension.

Longer throttle cable coming for rerouting and running the air filter outside of the engine compartment.

I will have to figure out how to post pictures, but I have a Heritage ZL1 in my Shell Valley. I thought the original ZL1 would have been perfect in 69 but the new version runs great on pump gas and having a 480lb 427 big block just seems to fit.

I'd never admit it publicly, but I reckon the LS7 makes for a ripping cobra engine.
Shhh don't tell the others

This is a car in West Aus - it belongs to a guy named "Heidelberg" here on CC.
I rarely see him post anymore, so I'll put it up on his behalf.
It's one of my all time fav cobra builds.

I couldn't care less that it has a Chevy engine.
At least the displacements right

You betcha by golly... Although a Pond 482" side oiler is nestled between the fenders of my Fakeydoo, my C6 Z06 has a 558 RWHP, 540 RWTQ LS7. That's with a very mild cam. There's lots of vette owners that are well north of 600 RWHP with theirs with a bit more radical cam.

I am working on a few other things, but currently mine has a 350 based SBC. Next in line is a LS3 with EFI. I am probably going to go with a factory crate engine that puts out 525 HP.

Mine is a small block 400, bored 0.30......with 6 inch H beam rods......ported and flowed Edelbrock heads , solid steel cam, solid rollers, rev kit, roller rockers, all balanced nice th a ported Victor junior and an 800 double pump spreadbore on top....., pulls 8000 rpm....and makes way more powervthan I can use even with a 4 speed jag BOX AND 2.88 LSD rear............

I have a big SBC in mine. Dart tall deck block with Dart 18* heads and intake, Pro-Systems carb. It is 450 inches. Cam has .732 lift on 106 CL.

Hi,

I am in the UK here is picture of my Dax 427 replica with a 383 SBC (Callies forged crank, h-beam forged rods, KB pistons, Edelbrock Performer RPM heads, Edelbrock Performer RPM Roller Cam, 10:1 compression) with Quad Weber IDF 48's.

The Weber's are a recent change the cars has been on the road since 2006, was running with a BG Fuel systems Speed Demon 650 and Edelbrock Performer RPM intake.

Jaguar IRS and suspension with a Tremec TKO600 tranny.

It is running ok with the Webers but still needs a bit of tweaking, what fun :-)

Also UK based, and have an 383 SBC. I think the majority of UK cobs a non Ford engine based, with the 350SBC & the smaller Rover v8 engines being the main choice - although there are still a fair number of ford engine powered cobs over this way.

Chris - love that engine bay - are you getting over to stoneleigh Kit car show next weekend? should be a fair few cobs on show if weather behaves itself.

Why don't you guys call your replicas Chevy ERA or Kirkham Chevy....or kit Chevy.

Chevy just doesn't go with the Cobra word. Hate to be literal but come on now.

I thought the genuine battle was over.....
