oil pan gasket opinion
changing out the oil pan on my 306 ford , it is a newer 5.0 block but will be usingan older road racing oil pan can I use a one piece felpro OS34508R or do I need to stick with the traditional 4 piece set

I think I'v tried just about every gasket on the market at one time or another. I'v had the best luck with a 4 piece gasket. YMMV.

I use 1-piece gaskets, but you have to make sure the gasket matches the pan....i.e. some pan rails are perfectly smooth and flat, others have embossed patterns in them for strength. If your pan rail is embossed, you need to use a flat gasket. If your pan rail is smooth, then you can use a flat gasket or a gasket with the pattern that sticks up. Hope that makes sense.

blykins is correct, some one piece gaskets have raised sealing ribs on both sides, if you try to mate an embossed pan rail with a raised ribbed gasket on the pan side it is going to leak. Also, most one piece gaskets I have seen have metal rings around the bolt holes, this prevents deforming the gasket and pan by over-tightening. If your pan rail is already deformed from years of service then the metal rings will prevent the gasket from sealing and it will leak.

it's an older Aviaid oil pan with embossed rails so I believe the felpro
OS13260T will be the correct one, if i'm wrong please correct me |

I replaced a Canton pan with an Aviaid pan about a year ago on my 351w. I used a Canton 88-652 one piece gasket. I found that the Canton gasket has more meat in the corners than the Felpro one piece. It matched the shape of the pan better and I didn't have to use any RTV in the corners.
