Machined engine block

Sorta new to the forum but was looking to start my engine build and unfortunately I dont know of a trusted machine shop in my area. I am building the engine myself but need to order a block that has already been machined. The block in particular I want is the BMP aluminum 8.2 deck big bore block. I am going to reach out to Bill Mitchell and see if they offer in house machining but wanted to see if anyone has other reputable shops in mind.

good call, San antonio TX

I would call Mike Forte. He can supply anything you need.

Keep in mind that an aftermarket block should be machined to match the parts that are going in it. Get the block and rotating assembly from the same place.

Brent Lykins (blykins) is an engine builder and a member on the site. I'd talk to him about your machine work.

Check with Lance at Craft Performance

The World Products warehouse is about 35 minutes from me. I'd be more than happy to snag a block for you and carve on it.

That would be awesome, I will send you a PM and see what we can do. Thanks

Just noticed you are in KY. My aunt and uncle live in Bowling green, he retired from the corvette plant up there.

You are lucky, they do not get much better than Brent.

jasond29 04-09-2020 03:53 PM

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. Brent is going to pick up the block and do all the machining, super awesome guy. Hopefully it will be a pretty stout engine.

Plan to send it to its new home on Monday. Nice piece.

When you do the machine work on a block, do you also put in correct aliment pins for the bellhousing, or do you let the customer do that?

blykins 04-25-2020 08:13 AM

It depends on if it's requested. A bare machined block is generally just that.

Nice work! I was in my garage today working on my motor Brent sent me the other week. Just waiting on the car to roll back home from the paint shop :)

Cant wait to start building this sucker. Brent you have been great to work with. Keep the parts coming

jasond29 04-29-2020 07:13 AM

Brent is an awesome pool of knowledge but if I keep taking his advice on the build I am going to have to be in a full fire suit every time I want to go on a sunday cruise.

blykins 04-29-2020 07:23 AM

Yeah, so??? What's the problem with that? :D

You don't have to push the pedal to the floor.

Almost got everything to start building the 363. This thing is going to be killer. Thanks Brent for machining and sourcing all the parts. Once the heads are all done I can start building this sucker.
