Just got a timing chain cover... Q. about the gasket

I currently am building a CR Cobra... I have a 95 EFI 5.0 (short water pump)... I had such a hard time configuring the belt for it, I decided to install the 93 and prior water pump and timing cover...
Anyways... I just got a new timing cover but it did not come with a gasket... My water pump came with a waterpump gasket...
Do I need a gasket?

Based on your question I would strongly suggest you go out and purchase a manual for your engine.

But to answer your question:

Anytime you are mating two surfaces you, 99 out of 100, require a gasket.

But if you can't find a gasket, a small bead of RTV will work. But! You do need a gasket.

It is easy to make a water pump/timing cover gasket out of gasket material you get at your local auto parts store. I've made several and they work better than oem.
