Default "Proper" orientation for #1 plug wire?

Hi guys,

Please bear with me for just a few more stupid questions. This IS my first Ford, remember.

I'm used to Chevrolets and having the #1 plug wire on the distributor oriented to the front of the engine. On my 289, the #1 wire is roughly aimed at the #5 cylinder. Is this "correct?" I ask because I'm replacing plug wires and re-curving the advance anyway. I figure that if I'm going to have it all apart I might as well take a minute and point the distributor in the proper direction.

Thanks, Tom

The #1 cylinder on any engine, is the one furthest forward.

as to which lug on the distributor to assisn as the #1, whatever you like for routing the wires. You don't have to use the lug that is often marked #1 on the cap.

J Marshall,

Thanks for the link. I knew which cylinder was #1, and obviously I can stick the distributor in any old way I please and route the wires accordingly. But I figure that if I'm going to do it, doing it right makes sense. Seeing the chart on Summit's site, I can see that the P.O. wired it up incorrectly. But without the chart, I would have also!

Thanks again, Tom
