Avenger Cylinder Heads in Anaheim, CA: anyone know about them?
I am thinking about sending my RPM Performers and my RPM Air Gap from my 351W to be ported. Avenger seems to be the only shop with a CNC program from my heads. TEA does not have one. I have the newer RPM Performers, the ones that flow 251 intake at .500, and which compare veryfavorably to TFTW heads out of the box (at least for intake. The TFs have better exhaust flows). To give an example, Avenger has a CNC program that can up the intake flow of my Performers at .500 from 251 cfm to 285 cfm, which is better than the AFR 185s and what the CNC ported TF Track Heat heads flow. Avenger also brings the exhaust flow way up. They will also some some work to the intake but say that there is not that much they can do to the Air Gap. I am told it is very feasible I will see another 40-50 hp with this extra porting. HAs anyone heard of them?

I guess my first question would be.....how much will they charge for the porting?

$899 for a 5 angle CNC porting for both heads and $250 for the intake.

I figured it would be in that area.
I don't have any personal experience with the Avenger folks.
Have you had a dyno on your current combination? What is the combo exactly? Cam, carb, tranny, gear etc.
Any time slips?
Personally, I like to look at bang for the buck and what it is I want to achieve.
I wouldn't out of hand dispute their claim on the hp increase......but much would depend on your current output.

I am at 325 rwhp behind a c6 auto which should equal 415 hp at the fly. I had had some timing issues and was running very rich but those problems were corrected and I picked up 25 hp just like that.
I corresponded with Total Engine Airflow who told me that they had seen the same engine make 30 hp more at the rear wheels compared to RPM Performers so I would definitely see some power by either getting AFRs, ported TF Track Heats, or to a lesser extent, porting my RPMs. I figure if I have the power in my engine, why not?

What carb & cam are you running?
I'm an AFR fan. Had some 185s on my 331 and have a set of 205s waiting to go on the current project (408).
I originally had a set of Performer heads that I was going to put on my 331. I got a smokin' deal on them because they had some damage from a blown head gasket. Had them freshened up and milled .010 to bring the compression down some. After I cc'd them the chambers were still too big to suit me. Sold them on ebay with a set of Omega rockers.
If it were me, instead of shelling out that much for the port work on the heads & intake, I would blow off the heads and buy new AFR (or whatever you prefer) and go from there.
If you go to www.airflowresearch.com and look at the top of the page you'll see an "Articles" section. At the bottom of the articles page is the complete MM&FF series on SBF cylinder heads. If you look at the Group 1 & 2 sections you might get enough info to help you decide.

I believe Avenger is the head shop for F-P-S*. Since they build some strong combos, I think they are probably ok.
* They have the same address and fax number.
