Competition Style Valve Covers
Perhaps this is a rookie question, however does anyone have a source for the plain (gray) steel valve covers with the extended breather necks and black round breathers as found on the competition cars?
Thank You!

I just fabbed up a set like the ones you see below & SENT THEM OUT FOR POWDERCOAT. The decals can be purchased online through a couple different sources. YOu can find the early valve covers on ebay for around $15-$20. YOu will need to buy the materials to add the risers, braces & plug & breathers

Look up national parts depot, they have the Breathers. They may also have some of the decals but the valve cover & breather decals I picked up from Cobra Restorers. They look just like the set on Lynn's FIA

Not a problem.

Hello
On the picture, placed from „Tongue Pirate“, is an “expansion-tank” visible.
Has any one some idea, if and where this tank can be ordered?
Many thanks for your help

You can get them made up at ERA (I did) but they are not cheap!

What do the breathers do?
I've seen breathers in a couple of pictures of different engines. What is their function?

Pirate,
Thanks for the reply. Sorry for my lack of understanding, but why is this important? Does it help cool the crank case?
Thanks

They relieve the buildup of back pressure in your crank case.

Air expands as it gets warm & with all the rotating parts, possible blow-by if there were no vents the pressure could build up causing your gaskets to blow out & leak oil everywhere.

Lindy:
Club Cobra member Rick Parker also used to fab and sell these valve covers. You might look him up in the members section and send him a PM.

Russ,
Thank you.
With everything else that I am doing to the car (at the moment), being able to get a completed set sounds like a good idea.

They aren't that tough to make or to have made up. The Valve covers are on ebay on a regular basis. I used 1-1/4" steel tubing & cut them at 11.25 angle to make a 22.5 angle for each cover. the bottom tube I cut at 2" & the top at 4". The gussets I made from 1/16" steel & used paper the get the shapes correct before transfering the templates to the steel. The Sources for the breathers & decals I listed above.
BTW, I have changed my user name to try to resolve some login issues I have been having with my Tongue Pirate account. If this doesn't fix it then I'll know it's just me:p
