Default 351c Idle 2 Years Prestart Up ??

I have a Boss 351C that has 2200 miles after professional rebuild. This engine came mounted on a unfinished Midstate rolling chasis that I purchased last year. I am close to finishing and would like some advice on starting this sitting motor. The motor has sat unstarted for 2 years.
THe motor had oil in it, but no coolant. The crank moves freely.
I was thinking of spraying WD40 in each spark plug whole and manully turning the motor a number of time. I was then going to drain the oil and fill with fresh. I was then going to pull my valve covers and use the drill with shaft to pump the fresh oil and check for oil pressure and oil visual in the valve train.
Am I on the right path or should I pull the heads and inspect the short block for rust in the cylinders?

Did you turn the engine by hand during those 2 years?

You may want to put WD40 inthe holes as you originally thought.

How complete is the engine?

Connect a mechanical oil pressure guage to the rear port and put a drill down the distributor hole. Run the drill in reverse and see how much pressure you can build.

Prime the carb and run pressure up on it holding at 7 PSI maximum. If it leaks all over, you will need to fix the carb.

Coolant would be a good thing to put in the system and run a 24 hour pressure test.

You should be ready to go after this, if there is no other damage from sitting.

Trularin, It is a complete 351C with closed chamber 4v heads, Holley 750dp, Edelbrocke Performer intake, & upgraded cam. I do have CHI 2v Heads, Edelbrocke Air GAp Intake & a New Holley 700DP ready for install. I just figured on firing the old stuff up one more time before the change over. I did manually turn The crank A few Times during the year that I have had it.

Why do you want to take off the 4v heads? Some claim these were the best flowing heads ever made by Ford. Others say if anything they flow too well.

Olddog, Yes they flow very well If I lived from 4K to 6.5K drag racing . They sell port stuffers for both the intake and exhaust ports. I think the CHI Aussie Heads & the Edelbrocke Air Gap intake will be a big improvement across the entire RPM range.

I know nothing about the CHI heads. I see how smaller ports would help the low end. Mid range is likely a wash, but top end the 4v should be better. If the air gap will bolt onto the 4v heads, you may want to try that combo first. Seems I read that this can be done and even though the intake ports are much smaller than the head ports that flow is not hurt. I'm not certain that I have remembered this correctly, but it may be worth looking at. The intake has much more to do with getting the low rpm velocity up for better low end torque than the heads. Since the 4v heads flow better at high rpm this may give the best over all performance, assuming this will bolt up.

Anyway what ever you find out I would be interested in hearing the results.

I have a cleveland in mine which sits for long periods occasionally and I would do just what you're planning with one exception. I replaced my big port cleveland heads with chi 2v heads and air gap intake recently and I wouldn't bother cranking it until I changed the heads they're that good.

If this car will be street driven the CHI 2V heads will be far better than the original Boss 4V heads - hands down. The original 4V heads are great for high rpm flogging, but that's not where the car will live 95% of the time. Don't get rid of the Boss heads though - they are valuable and scarce.
