cometic head gasket crush?

looking at the cometic web site, they list the gaskets as .040". is this the precrush thickness or compressed height from block to head? probably a stupid question. thanks.

Cometic makes different thicknesses of head gaskets. I just used the .080 (compressed thickness) gasket on my 351C to reduce compression so it would run on pump gas (91 octane) with an additive. Seems to work well. From what I learned, the thicknesses listed are compressed thickness.
