Default Carroll Shelby Engines: 351W

Source: Hemmings.com

" Carroll Shelby Engines introduces aluminum 351W "

" Despite having one of the most recognized names in American high performance, Carroll Shelby is not the first person most enthusiasts think of when it comes time to purchase an aftermarket engine block. In fact, apart from hardcore FE engine fans, we’d wager that plenty of gearheads aren’t yet aware that Shelby is even involved with the production of brand-new engine castings, but it’s a venture that’s actually been operating for over 10 years at this point.

The initial motivation for Carroll Shelby Engines was to produce an all-aluminum version of the vaunted 427 Ford FE engine to serve as the perfect complement for a new continuation Cobra. Aluminum cylinder heads followed, and now the company is adding an aluminum 351 Windsor to the catalog.

The Shelby 351W is CNC-machined from a casting of A356 T6 alloy and features a 9.5-inch deck height and available bore sizes ranging from 4.024-inch to 4.125-inch (using ductile iron sleeves). The 2.75-inch main caps are billet steel with four-bolt retention on the center three mains and can accommodate up to 4.250-inch stroke. The new block uses a one-piece rear main seal and a stock oil filter location, and can be used with Ford accessories. Aluminum cylinder heads are also available from Shelby to cap off the alloy Windsor.

The site is currently under construction, but for information in the future stay tuned to www.shelbyengines.com. "

I wonder how many will be willing to pay the "Shelby" price for these? Sounds like an interesting piece, but way expensive. Just have to wait and see....

Default Shelby 351

I heard Shelby bought the Fontana Clevor block tooling and was Windsorizing it. Can anyone confirm this?

They do exist. I saw a pile of them on a pallet ready for or getting machining work done last October. One was assembled and mounted in a an aluminum 289 FIA style Cobra when I was there looking at something else. Flathead blocks too... Suprised it's taken this long to get out... hmmmm.

I'd stick with Dart; a proven product without the extra bux for the name. Besides, I wouldn't want my car to be confused with a Cobra.

i know that ford motorsport is coming out with an alum 427 stroker based on a 351W, so my guess would be that they will offer the alum 351w engine also... but i could be wrong

Was not aware that any Cobras came with flatheads!
Are these aluminum flathead blocks?

How dare Ford create a copy of the Shelby 351W engine in aluminium...

Definitely one to watch.

Shelby will have a lot of ground to catch up on. Ford Racing and Roush, have been doing this for a while and from what I hear Roush has treated their customers very (very ) well.

So an interesting point on the http://www.shelbyengines.com page...

the image "http://www.shelbyengines.com/under_construction.jpg" still has a shutterstock.com watermark on it.

uhhh -- did someone at Shelby not properly license an web image -- >?.(eek)

however when you pull the domain records , it looks legit --but odd.
