Smile 351 Cleveland timing question

What is the basic timing on a 351 C with a C-6? What is the total?

I seem to recall the basic timing being around 24 deg and total coming in around 32 deg with a similar set up to yours.

This is just a swag but I think it is pretty close to being accurate. I assume your EFI is something like TWM or similar running a FAST computer, mild hydraulic cam (230 dur/470 lift), MSD 6A and pump gas ?

As I recall 32 was the total.

I currently am running 38 total.

Dave,

You need to bring that beast of yours to Run N Gun and have some fun with it! We will make you feel right at home. We might even offer you an Adult Beverage.

Dang it all Clois, I have to support near a billion dependents.

Maybe next year.

Besides, I want Dean's car...but don't have any money.

Next time I visit HLC, I will have to stop and say hi.

I was reading through a book and found this information. I remembered you asking the question. It is not clear if this was factory setup or what Ford recomended for performance applications. This is for the 351C 4V. It referred to a dual vacuum diaphragm canister distributor and said for auto tran hook up only the outer diaphragm canistor to manifold vacuum not ported vacuum.

Set initial to 16 with vacuum disconnected.

Centrifugal Advance Curve:

Dist rpm dist deg
400------ 0
500------0.5
750------3.5
1000------6
1200-----8.5
1300-----9.5
1400-----10

Eng rpm Eng Deg
800------0
1000-----1
1500-----7
2000----12
2400----17
2600----19
2800----20

The mechanical giving 20 plus the intial of 16 gives a total of 36 deg at 2800 with no vacuum.

Sorry for the late reply, but I just read it.

OBTW - the book did note that there were other distributor advance plates for different amounts of mechanical advance. From memory now - I think there was one that gave 26 deg mechanical at the crank. It was likely for the 2V and setting the initial at 10. I'm speculating, but that would make sense for a mild cam. It didn't say what rpm the other options came in at.

The book did not give any information on the Vacuum Advance. It did say that the 4V idled at 11" Hg vacuum. It is dissapointing that finding this type of information is so hard to come by.

Glad to have helped a little.
