Default best kit for a donor car

Hi guys. I'm new to the forum so bare with me if I'm asking a question that has been asked many times before. I'm looking to acquire an AC cobra (kit/repo/etc) but need to have it on a donor car - i.e. I cannot just buy a complete car or a roller, I need to build it.

What would be the best kit to buy (within reasonalbe costs) and what would be the best donor car to build on (obviously, the kit would have to be 'buildable' on the said donor).

Thanks

Oh, by the way, I'm interested in just road use - no track racing. Also, I'm 5'9'' and slim built, so no comfort issues either.

FFR.but you may be very suppries you can buy one cheaper than to build one. There are several cobras on the market at good $$$$$. There is MKII in Cal. $20,000 FFRCARS.

yes, from what i can see on the market, I agree. My problem is that on this small island where I live, buying a complete car would subject me to exhorbitant registration fees (approximaltey five figure sums - in Euros!). I'd much prefer to spend that money on the build than giving it to a government to spend unwisely.

jagiar, It looks like we are both in the same position. from all the research that I have done so far it looks like FF MK4 is the best package and has the best support out there for what we want. What's your budget? I'm looking at 20 to 25K including the donor car. I keep hearing that right now it's cheaper to buy then to build but I have not found any examples in my price range. I don't need a bunch of bling under the hood just something that performs well and looks great going down the road.

hammer, that price range is what I was thinking as well. But as I planned my build on taking a few years, it may be easier on the pocket in the long run. Like you, I haven't found many cars around that range BEFORE the registration tax. AFTER the registration tax, well...it would be totally non-feasible. Furthermore, since AC cobra's are not listed on my government's website to determine what the tax would actually be, it would be a roll of the dice on my part. But from what I've researched, it's likely five figure sums (due to the engine capacity).
