Default Background for a photo shoot ?

My cobra will be/hope in a national magazine so I need some advise on what type of background for the photographer to shoot the pic's ?

The closest paved race track is Rusty Wallace's track in Iowa. Apx. 3-4 hours away from me. I don't have beautiful trees and landscaping until fall. ect.......

Any cool or creative ideas ?
No XXX rated. lol

If anyone needs pics, for the color of the car to match up a background either I'll post some or e-mail you. (well, hell, I'll attaché a few anyway) lol

I'm sure they won't want this beautiful woman in the magazine (bummer) but it partly shows the hood up showing the engine.

Kevin,

When the car show and the magazines were doing articles on my 69 Cobra they seemed to like mountains and winding roads as a background. Fortunately we have plenty of those around here so I never had to go far.

Congratulations on having your car in the magazine. I know it is a thrill. I have saved all the magazines my two were in and have them in a big book.

Ron

Ron- that's great that your 69' was in a magazine. Sure puts a smile on you face !

Ferrari dealership- that would kill them especially, since Ford kicked their but in racing !

And, take is easy bud, I picked her up and put her cute little toosh on a micro fiver towel. No scratches !
They were supposed to have their bikini bottoms on but, it was really cold outside.
She also put a little natural wax on the paint too.

I'd say park it down at the local Hooters' and give it five minutes to draw a crowd.

Seriously...

I take it that your Nebraska "from" and reference to the Iowa track (I don't have a map) probably means you are somewhere on the Nebraska/Iowa border (not necessarily Omaha).

You have some wonderful photo opportunity places near you. True, corn and soy bean fields aren't all that interesting.

Go down by the Missouri River to a park. If close to Omaha go down to the old paddle wheel boat park (it's between Omaha and Sioux City, I can't remember the name of it).

I was born in Sioux City (Iowa) and raised in North Sioux City/Jefferson (South Dakota) and have MANY photos along that corridor.

It'll be spring pretty soon so you should be able to find some flowering trees. Another thought: Find an apple orchard near Mondamin.

Also, consider a different angle for taking the photo for publication. All of mine are taken pretty much on my knees (everyone can tell when I've been out because of the dirt on the knees of my jeans). I took some from a stepladder of my Snake and Stallion (Cobra and Mustang) and I still like the ones from ground level better. Compare and contrast:

Taken from the ladder

Normal standing height

Taken kneeling:

P.S. Iowa is a great place to be from. Here's a couple of my Shelby GT from the set of photos that Barrett Jackson used in the Scottsdale 2008. These were taken at Red Rocks and along the Peak to Peak highway:

1. edgy, cosmopolitan shots- in a warehouse district- graffiti, razor wire, etc.
2. nostalgic- train yard, tracks crisscrossing, guard gates down, etc
3. bright, colorful- carnival, one of those parking lot amusement parks with neon lights, etc. blur out a bit in the background. dusk, low light, cool
4. landscapy- lake edge, parks, BLUEBONNETS (ha), no curbs just road to shoulder to grass.
5. to get a 'look' of a track, sort of, go to a big church parking, grab some orange cones from 'Lowe's' or some such home improvement store, and then strategically place the cones to look laid out for autocross. Could use as few as 3-4 cones- return them for refund when done! Make sure the church or school or such isn't in the background.
6. after looking through my gallery, airports are good.
good luck! Kristen
ps- if you use the cones, etc, make sure the 'depth of field' is really short, and blurs out a lot of the background. Just the fuzziness of the cone would be enough. I've taken pics of my car's' in a lot of settings,

I live 10 miles east of the Capitol city of Lincoln. Just 50 miles from Omaha.
I just thought of Mahoney State Park by the river. Although I haven't been their in a few years, there has to be a nice location there. Especially it being higher in elevation. Just wish this was fall, for all the pretty colored trees.

I would hate to drive my car a long distance because it will get all dirty again. lol

GREAT cars by the way !

hey little- your car is still one of my favorites. And thank you for the great list of ideas.

Put it in front of a green screen and Photoshop anything you want behind it.

I don't have photo shop but, I know who does. It needs to be a high resolution and that won't be a problem with a pro-photographer. It's amazing what can be done on a computer today. I appreciate the great tip.

This is an example of my x-mas card last year among other stuff that my friend can do.

with film

same day, with cheap 'pocket' digital. I'm sure a pro photographer, with a 'good' digital, would bring out the best of both.

photoshop would be a great idea if you're stuck in the cabin all winter long- 3' of snow..... no where to go..... BUT... going out on a 'live' shoot certainly is more fun to me!
anyway, have fun, and be sure you get the 'rights' to any photos. Just because it's 'your' car, doesn't mean you'll get the pics. They always belong to the photographer! k

Hello Kevin,

First off ...Go to Curt Scotts Cobra Country Website.

http://www.cobracountry.com/home2.html

Click on his tips for taking pictures of your Cobra ---Read, & heed and you will get a primer on how to take pictures of your car.

As the guys indicated the background is important and back to your original question use a location that is not busy but, will give you a consistent color to frame your car in. Sunrise and Sunset are the best light to highlight the curves of the car.

Have fun.....

Tony R.

When I shot for a manufacturer in the UK we used to look for roads that crested a rise and shoot with nothing but sky behind, parking the car on the ridge just before the road dropped downhill. Magazine and newspaper use went up by around 2000%! And always shoot early morning or evening. My day would start on site at 4am, clean the car off, start shooting at 5am until 8am in June or July. Cars, especially Cobras, only look their best in soft light and at dawn, the background sky changes from purple to a pale pink. Then the sun comes up and the magic is gone....
