In need of replacing the Speedo cable on my SPF MKIII? Can anyone provide the part number...Car has a TKO600

Any tips or tricks to re-install the cable on the transmission side? Is there an O-ring seal on the trans side?

Mine bounces all over the place. I've check for kinks, but I may just try replacing the cable.

Doug - replaced mine with NAPA 615-1644. No issues. Comes greased. If i remember correctly i took the o-ring of the old and used on the new. No leaks so far.

The only issue I had was I got that NAPA cable and a gear from somewhere else and neither came with the clip to hold the gear on. I bought a 10 pack off my local Ford dealership if you have a need.

That is a good NAPA part # for the cable (615-1644), I've used it about a hundred times on SPF and CSX cars.
The O-ring on the trans end should be NAPA # 727-2115 and I use a little silicone too - little is key word.
I believe the clip for the speedo gear is Ford # cldz*17292*a and I usually use gear # cldz*17271*a

Proper routing and grease filling the tube is the key.

you can use a cable for a 1967 mustang. ( if you are napaless)

Correct part number prefix for the clip is C1DZ (not cl)

Available from Ford dealer or most any Mustang parts vendor.

I finally got around to installing a new speedo cable today after suffering with a bouncing speedometer for 3 years. I had the luxury of using Dave's (4Pipes) lift, which made life a LOT easier. The biggest PIA is removing/reinstalling the knurled nuts that hold the speedo on. It's a much easier job with a spare set of hands.

Mission accomplished. The speedo is now rock solid. It's a little off, but at least I know where I'm at and it's not bouncing back and forth in 10 mph increments.

Thanks for the tip regarding the Napa PNs guys. The Napa cable (615-1644) is perfect and we installed a new rubber O-ring at the same time (727-2115). The existing gear and clip was in perfect condition so we reused that.

You ain't kidding!

I think the volt meter is the worst. I'm too fat to get upside down in the drivers seat anymore, so I have to pull the speedo to get to the volt meter.

Thanks for the post of the part number for the cable guys, I will install a new one this winter as I have "the bounce".

I had the gauges out another time to install a new oil pressure line. Man, all I can say is find someone with small hands. I thought my head was going to explode after being upside down for 20 minutes.

I usually drop the dash bolts as well to get back there, but a giant pain in the asp.

Glad to hear that you were able to get it nailed down.

I noticed a very small seep/drip after putting some miles on my car after installing the new. Cable.

427Charlie mentioned using a small amount of silicone. I installed a new o-ring, but didn't use any silicone. Should I remove the clip and apply some silicone to the surfaces?

Bumping this up.

Any tips for making sure the speedo cable on a TKO 600 doesn't drip?

I installed a new o-ring when I installed the new cable and made sure the bolt/clip were tight.

In regards to the fluctuating speedo... I have found on a couple cars that the inner cable is a fraction too long. It then is forced to be slightly "bent" in the casing and creates the pulsing. If you use a grinder or cut-off wheel and take just a little off, it goes away. I'd try that before installing a completely new cable. I even remedied it on one car by lossening the ring nut on the back of the speedo and it released enough tension to stop the pulsing as well. Just my.02.

I had a chance to put my car up on Dave (4pipes) lift. We isolated the slight trans fluid seep directly to the cable crimp. We cleaned the area thoroughly with solvent and applied some red RTV the cable/crimp.

So far so good.
