New Leather Spats Installed !
I finally got the new spats installed. They were made by a local interior shop. The leather is a very high grade leather with fine suede on the back side. It's not as thick as saddle or shoe leather, but is thicker than seat leather and excellent quality. To prevent paint damage backing is also not necessary, and the leather will not be damaged by the elements. The design is simple without a bunch of extra stitching - just not necessary. It's held in place by industrial strength 1 inch wide velcro running the full length inside the wheel well and inside the cockpit. You can't see it at all. There is also a snap securing the bottom to create the stretch fit. They do not flap or move at speed. I made sure of that tonight.
If you treasure your paint or are interested in covering up multiple rock chips (my situation), I think these things look cool. There not coming off the car ever. I should have done this on day 1. Who doesn't like black leather anyway?
Cost was 200.00
This first generation pattern is for Superformance. Maybe as some of the guys in the local club bring their various makes into his shop he will be able to develop patterns for other models.

Spats are a great look. Have some for my car but they just don't lay well on the FIA fender. Nice work!

The best purchase for my SPF was a bra. This would be the second best. Had the bra about two years and zero chips, paint is show car georgeous. Get them off ebay for $200 specifically for spf. Takes about 3 minutes to install and 1.5 to remove.

As a used car dealer of many years I have taken bra,s off many cars and always without exception tba paint is all scratched up under the bra. A little dust and moving of the bra in the wind and Presto! .....scratches.....! If I was to put something on my car it would tranparent stick on plastic film that you can shrink on with a hair dryer......not that your bra is not nice looking or anything.

Yep. Only problem - the velcro backing did not hold to the inside of the wheel well after the first wash. No problem - I used epoxy to re-bond the velcro backing. They're holding just fine now.

Cobras arent used cars. They are usually kept dry 99.9% of time, garaged. I have no evidence of any wear or scratch marks. Cobra couldnt make it as a dailey driver for 3 months, I am sure as the rain poured in the engine hood scoop it would kill the engine. I do not recommend the clear protection, ugly seam lines and if you take it off the paint chips will fall off with it and the clear coat.

Another update on your spats Mark?
How do they hold up against stones and water?
Do you treat them with anything?
Steve
