Replacing Water Temperature gauge/unit in SPF
Has anyone on the forum installed or replaced the mechanical water temperature gauge with capillary tube in the Superformance? Chassis number is 2423 should that make any difference. Just looking for some advice prior to tackling the procedure. I ruined mine when I filed the solder on the capillary tube so that it fit better into the fitting on the intake during an engine replacement. I did not know it was filled with inert gas. Must of created a very small leak as the gauge showed a temperature and slowly went down until inoperable. Thanks in advance!

Perry,
Not too bad a project if you have small hands and are not a big guy. Gauge comes off with two knurled nuts from behind. Light just pops out and can be reused. threading the sensor is relatively simple, just remember "long sweeping turns" and keep the tube away from any electrical wires, like spark plug wires and the distriutor cap. One spark and you'll purchase another unit.... Takes about 1/2 hour to replace...

Thanks Blas,
I'll take a peek under the dash this morning. I've heard a comment that the speedo may need to be pulled to access the fasteners of the water temp gauge. I hope it's accessible without taking the dash cluster apart!

Kinda depends on the size of you hands, and your general flexibility.
