Default Upper Control Arm Shimming.

I’m in the process of adjusting camber on my Superformance (2920). I noticed that the right rear upper control arm is aligned such that the heim joint is aligned to the far left of the hub assembly attachment point (see picture). You can also see in the picture that the upper control arm is shimmed all the way to the left where it meets the frame. I ASSUME I can move those shim/washers from the right to the left in order to move the heim joint more towards the center of the upper control arm junction. Given how everything is interrelated…will moving the washers screw up anything esle?

Moving the shims will change the caster in hub assembly. Some caster is good. I have no idea how to measure that, though. I would say that as long as both sides are the same, you're good.

The other issue is the articulation of the rod end. It looks like housing of the bearing is flush and tight with the side of the upright. That's a bad thing. You could be putting undue side loads on the rod end, and cause it to fracture. But, I'v never worked on a Superformance, so I could be wrong.

I pulled the upper control arm off and moved the thick shims from the right to the left (similar to other rear wheel). This moved the heim joint just enough to clear the hub assembly. Took it for a spin and it felt great.

Adjustment of the upper heim is critical to proper alignment of the lower control arm connections. If its too far out, undue stress is put on the lower control arm.
