Default Removing Spinners

The car has 9000 miles dont think the wheels have every been off. I tried heat, wd-40 larger hammers. thank for any input. Livnn

Lead mallet from American Hammer (search for that). Then be sure to pound on each ear of the spinner too, not just on one, in rotation until it releases. It will eventually.

When replacing them clean the spinner/wheel mating surface, and then spread a little anti-seize on the flat surface of the wheel (or spinner) where the two surfaces meet. You don't need much and try not to use too much as when they close up it'll squeeze some out and that stuff is nasty to clean up. This will make it easier to remove next time.

Had the same issue because the wheel and spindle were originally installed without anti-seize or as much as a drop of grease.......These conical surfaces deserved more respect..Be very careful with the wide deep rear rims. It is very easy to bounce off the spinner or miss a blow and hit the rim surface. A suggestion is to fabricate something with enough length to get your hammer blows out and away from the wheel. You will get better at it with time. I fabricated a metal bar with a " U " to straddle the spinner that works like a charm......Keep at it as the surfaces are trying to gall.

Lead hammer hitting on all ears as suggested above. Also bake sure you are trying to take it off in the right direction. Manny times this happens wrong direction! When you get them off I have found that you need to take them off at least once or more a driving season makes it easier the next time, and of course antisease, or spinner ease!

The spinners will rotate in the direction of the front of the car to remove them. So the driver side remove by spinning them to the left (counter clockwise) and the passenger side to the right (clockwise).

OOOOOO! Nasty thought! Plasma cutter. That gives me the shivers! After 9000 miles you might want to check the bearings on at least the front wheels. They should be regreased and checked for play.

Yep. A lead hammer is the only thing that will even give you a prayer of getting those off. Like Bill said, just keep tapping on all of the ears. They usually come off. It happens, but it's rare to hear of the worst case scenario where they are welded on.

Heres one other thing to think about, it don't happen often but the adapters could be put on the opposite sides by mistake, that makes spinner turn opposite direction for removal! Have only herd of one like that but just saying!

I needed a MAPP gas torch and freeze spray to get mine off the first time after I bought it. Zero anti-seize on the threads (I also noticed boogered up wheel pins, which all had to be replaced...$5 each...ouch).

I've since moved over to stainless spinners, and use loctite silver anti-seize (I like the Stick #37617 stuff as it's no mess).

Never a problem since.

Make sure you are using a heavy lead hammer (I got a 'mother thumper' from Cobra Valley) and tap/turn/tap/turn as mentioned above. Apply heat/cold if it's really stuck.

You might also try some PB Blaster penetrating oil....it's just about the best stuff I've found.

Getting them off the first time is always hard....now you know why anti-seize is so important!

Make sure your adapters have not been put on the opposite sides of the car by mistake!! Take a small hand held mirror and position it behind a spinner ear and you should see a stamped "L" or "R" meaning left or right hand thread. Make sure the "L" is on the passenger side.

My spinners were originally installed on the opposite side of the car, thankfully I only broke one spinner before I realized they were on the wrong side of the car.
