Default Odometer

My Mark III is 3 years old with 2500 miles, and I zeroed the trip indicator and now the trip or car odometer doesn't work. The speedometer works. I've reset the trip a couple of times, but neither works. Any suggestions?

Seems to be a common problem, mine is doing the same thing, I'm either going to get it rebuilt or get a new one.

Check to see if the plastic plug behind the gear popped out. Mine did and stopped working. Had to push it back in and put some wire around it. It will be on the passenger side of the speedo.

Checked and the white plug appears to be in place. I can still zero the trip indicator. If the speedometer has to removed, how much of a problem?

Hardly any at all. The speedo is held in the dash be a U shaped bracket which is secured by two thumb nuts. Get a flashlight and mirror and have a look. Remove the nuts, the bracket falls off, and the speedo pops out the front.

That speedo is a POS. I've never touched the odo for fear the thing is going to crumble inside. I replaced the cable once...still has a nice bounce to it. I keep threatening to replace it with an electronic speedo.

I spoke with Kevin at Cobra Valley and he said someone has posted detail instructions for the replacement of the odometer gear. I have purchased the gear and am ready for the repair.
