Default Adding a driver's shoulder harness bar?

I'm finally getting around to doing shoulder harnesses and was going to just do the driver's side. Does anyone have a good source for the style that clamps onto the roll hoop?

I know I can go through the rear bulkhead with a Y harness on both the driver and passenger side but like the look of the harness bar. A bit more old school.

Finish Line appears to be permanently out of their 1.5" model that fits our cars so I need to find another source.

I was looking for one like that when I was putting together the FIA race car and could not find one. After talking it over with some people who were knowledgable concerning the bar and its placement in order to provide proper support in case of an accident and especially rollover, we welded a bar between the legs of the roll hoop below the body as you want downward pressure on the shoulders. You would not need the seat back brace welded to the bar. I needed it to bolt the race seat to for support.

Being that this is a lot of work, and you are ending up with the shoulder harness basically in the same place as going to the rear bulkhead, I would suggest the latter.

I agree with 1795. I installed RJS V belts on 3153 through the bulkhead and it’s a very clean install with no worry of damaging the paint.

Shoulder harness should not be anchored more than 1”– 4” below shoulder height. Mounting below this height may cause additional spinal compression. The ideal position is anywhere between 5° below and 30° above the driver’s shoulder. Per G-Force Harness company.

I surrender and will go through the bulkhead as my car already has the drilled crossmember.

What always scared me about the add-on-bar to the single rollbar hoop is the eye-bolts that project forward towards my head. Always seemed that adding metal closer to my knoggin' was a less than desirable plan.

I know others will disagree with me. That's OK.

Not sure about the newer Superformances, but the older roll bars ( mine#1436) needed an additional bolt installed towards the bottom in the back wheel well.

Good call. They all do that I'm aware of. The later cars have a rivet (mine does) to keep it from moving but is not heavy crash worthy.

Thanks! Where did you order that one?

I have a neck injury so when I have a helmet on, it really helps to have my head against something when rowing the gears hard.
