Turn signal adjustment

What’s the trick to keeping the turn signal adjusted properly? I take the wheel off and adjust the collar so it’s in the middle of the right and left turn “bumps”. Put it back together and it works perfectly for a few turns. Then it’s back the way it was. Left turn is fine. Right turn clicks off right away with the steering wheel straight ahead.
