Smiths Electric Speedometer
I’m trying to solve a wiring conundrum on the Superformance. The Tremec TKX VSS has a 2 wire plug. One side goes, I believe, to a ground. The other side goes to the Smiths speedometer. I am uncertain if it gets connected to the white/black or the blue/red wires. As it sits, the blue/red wire is unused. The other wires from the unit disappear into the harness. There are no wires to receive signal run to the transmission area under the car as the reverse light and neutral safety switch are. Has anyone hooked one of these up?

Have you contacted Nisonger?
What did they tell you?

The speedometer apparently is correct. It can get signal from the trans or gps. I was informed that my car was supposed to have the gps type speedometer and where to find the gps unit under the dash. When I looked there, while upside down in the drivers seat, I could not find it. I did, however, find a dangling plug containing red, black, green and purple wires. These wires run, in a black sheath, back over to the area on the speedometer but I can’t see where they go. I’m wondering if the gps unit didn’t get installed at the factory.

Richie,
If you have an electrical question about Superformance, wait for Blas to respond or contact him, he'll either have it on one of his diagrams or will add it after you figure it out.
If you are doing your own electrical troubleshooting, $60 for one of his drawings WILL save you a lot of time. Mine has a lot of penciled in notes and crossed out details that don't apply to my car.

Thanks for the kind words, he has already purchased a Wiring Diagram for his MKIII and he has the addendum for the electronic gauges. I would need more info and photos to move forward.

When I get this thing I’ll take some pictures and let you know the procedure for the install. I’m told it will be different than the original so there may be some wiring changes. Hopefully it will be relatively simple.

Smiths Electric Speedometer
The latest in the speedometer saga is that the plug I found under the dash is for a gps that was never installed. Superformance sent me one to install. Unfortunately it’s not the unit that matches the installed plug. It’s the unit they are now using and has no plug and different color wires. They provided instructions to install it. However, the wires from the speedo plug change colors at the gps plug. So, the black/white wire from the speedo turns green at the plug and has to be connected to the white at the gps! I found this out with a continuity test. I need to get a battery in the vehicle to do further testing so I can hopefully identify where all the wires emerging from the harness originate. Not a great experience so far.

Well…..the new GPS module is installed, wire colors and connections sorted out and the speedometer programmed after replacing a defective tripmeter reset button. Now I just need to start my driveline install so I can test it.
