Default Garage door modification for 4 post lift

I finally wrapped up relocating my door higher to the ceiling to accomodate my 4 post lift better. As you can see I went from tension springs to torsion spring with high lift drums and went from traditional opener to liftmaster 3800. Regardless if you relocate your door or not if you have to replace your door opener go with the liftmaster. You can program it to stop anywhere, it has a dead bolt which engages when the door is down to prevent anyone from opening the door, the usual safety gadgets to prevent anyone from walking under and a very accurate force control. You can get them off ebay for $300 with free shipping. Total door modification with me doing all the work was $300 for opener and $125 to convert to torsion springs

How tall are your ceilings in the garage?

If your door is balance correctly you can use the regular garage door opener and move it to the side of the door. mine has worked fine for two years now.

Thanks for the comments. My ceiling height is 112.5". From the top of the door to the ceiling is now .75", impossilbe for a regular door opener to work, the rod (track) that mounts above the door etc is larger than that, also since my door goes verticle before back I had to go to torsion springs, remember traditional openers pull the door back. I could have gotten around the torsion spring by adding a fake panel and moving my tracks up but I would have been at least 6" from the ceiling. I did not have 6 inches to spare.

Now it you have one big double door, you have some options but as you can see with my two doors and the small space between them options were limited. I could easily drive both doors off the one opener if I raised the other door up to the same height.

Here is a link to another site that I have been following that really addresses a lot of the 4 post lift brands, ceiling heights etc.
