SPF MK III Chassis #3000 right around the corner

I was checking out the Superformance website tonight and noticed that MkIII chassis number 2970 was available for sale. I wonder if they're planning anything special for chassis 3000?

I noticed that some of the 2900 + cars have amber running light lenses vs. the clear lenses. Have they switched back and forth over time?

Both are available. Also you can select the single rectangular tail lamp or the later dual round units.

2933 has the clear lens for example but the amber was an option.

Doug, I recently switched from the white to amber front marker lenses. To me it looks more period correct (based on my research).

I believe #3,000 has already been spoken for. A very prominent SPF enthusiast may end up with the keys. But I don't know for sure so I'm not going to name names.

I am changing my clear front turn signal lenses over to the orange/amber lucas repros that finishline sells.

Frankly this surprises me. I have #2369 and my chassis is now 3-years old. It seems the last 500 took a lot longer to move than the first 2500.

I am sure one reason is backdraft racing came onto the scene

I have #2613 and it was built a little over 2 years ago. SPF started manufacturing cars in 1996, so they've been averaging about 230 cars a year.

Chassis #2972 is on the line now. And yes, there is more competition for sales now, not to mention the economy has affected sales. Still, 200 plus per year is a pretty good feat for an unknown company from South Africa!

Also, they're making GT40s, Daytona Coupes and now starting production of the Corvette Grand Sports. That doesn't sound little anymore. Sounds like they're bigger than GM.

Don`t forget the fantastic new Perana which got rave reviews at the Geneva show.

Yep. The owner of the car was announced on SCOF forum. I'm not going to be the one who spills the beans. :)

froggyman 03-07-2010 09:28 AM

Spilling the beans?

No, I'm not going to spill the beans about the new owner, and the story surrounding it, but the car is well spoken for already.

Would love to trade him my SPO2891 for it but I think the new owner has specific designs on specs already. Dang it. Magic number, 3,000 well made cars, the next always as good but better than the previous one.

Juan
