How to keep the air cleaner hold down screw tight?
I cannot keep the screw which holds my air cleaner tight on my Roush 427. I had not opened my hood for months, due to it running perfect, and when I did I found the air cleaner loose. I have tighted it before, is there a gasket or other trick from keeping it from comming loose?

I run a locknut ( nylon ) down the threaded rod and put a flat washer on top of it . This gives the air cleaner top/lid something to bottom out on when you tighten the lid down . On some of the thinner lids , they flex and can cause the wing nut to come loose . You can also put a rubber washer between the lid and a flat washer and then the hold down nut .... helps absorb some of the vibration .
I also use a lock nut ( jam nut ) on the threaded rod that screws into the carb itself .
The Roush set up is one where the screw goes through the air cleaner into the carb. It looks good since it is recessed into the air cleaner lid when tight. I like the idea of flatten the threads but after time it might damage the carburator. The blue loctite also sounds good.
