Dingy Looking Intake

Hi Folks - was wondering what anyone has used to correct a dingy edelbrock aluminum intake on my BBF.

My cobra is nearly ready for street legal drive, but over the past year in the garage, the intake has gotten a little tarnsihed looking. Is there any kind of spray/etc I can use to clean it up? Or do I need to actually get it plated?

Thanks!

You could take it off and take it to a place that can bead blast it. It will look new, but will be a little raw. You would probably need to seal it with a clear finish or have it polished to maintain the nice finish.

Use some wheel cleaner approved for raw aluminum. Keep it off of anodized or plated parts.

thanks. i'll try a little wheel cleaner. most likely i will take off the intake for blast/plating, but it would be nice to clean it up a bit

If you glass bead it, take it and put it on a shelf to look at. No matter what you you do, you will NEVER get all the glass beads out of it. Gee, what will a couple of glass beads do when they hit the walls of your cylinders or better yet, get into you oil system and run around your main bearings a couple of times..........

Take it to a plating shop. Have them degrease and etch it. They might even be able to seal it.

Couldn't you seal off the openings with duct tape to keep the glass beads out and just blast off the outer surface? I've done it this way several times and it works fine as long as you use plenty of tape and make sure to seal it down properly.

Run it thru a dish washer cycle or two ---

Don't laugh too hard Jerry. I ran all four wheels from my Jaguar thru my dishwasher. After breaking the big chunks off by hand, my brand new Bosch dishwasher finished them off..............

Assuming you don't want to remove the intake, you could try some Simple Green. Wet the intake, spray the stuff on, let it sit for a bit, scrub any stubborn areas and then hose off. 15 minutes max.

It may not clean it perfectly, but it is real easy to do.

This works pretty good, and the simple green wont hurt anything

How long did it take for the bruises to dissapear after the wife opened her new Bosh dishwasher to discover a big old nasty wheel in it??:LOL:

I've used the dishwasher with a small amount of Simple Green in the detergent tray many times. The very most important part is...... take the parts out before the wife can see what you've done! **)

I use wheel cleaner for uncoated wheels. Leave it sit a few minutes, spray it off, and it looks like new.

I will admit, I have never tried the dishwasher.

The dishwasher picture is priceless. When I put VHT paint on my headers and put them in my wife's oven to bake, I went back out to the garage to work and forgot they were in there. When my wife got home, she came running out to the garage and asked why there was a "muffler" in her oven. The house smelled terrible. My bad.

awsome stuff! i'll try the simple green, although we do need a new dishwasher :)

When I had my intake off last winter I smoothed it down and had it Ceramic coated. Looks great and easy to maintain with glass cleaner and a more detailed cleaning with aluminum or ceramic coating polish.

I used EvapRust, coat it on let it set for 15 mins then bush and hose off, brings aluminum back to new.
