Default Painting side pipes Jet-Hot to Matte Black

I have a question I have not been able to find an answer to by searching CC. I have Jet-Hot Coated Headers and Side pipes on my SBF. The Side pipes have minor surface rust developing between the tubes as they exit the fender into the mufflers. I have seen pictures lately on CC of black side pipes and I am really beginning to like the look. My car is black with silver stripes and the headers do look good silver but thinking black would be good too.

My question is; can I scuff the Jet-Hot and paint my side pipes black or should they be blasted then painted? Alternatively, have them blasted and get them coated in a matt black finish.

If painting is suitable what is a good recommendation for painting them matte black? In addition, would it be dorky to paint the side pipes black and leave the headers Jet-Hot Coated?

Any input appreciated.

Roger

VHT will be fine if you sand down the surface so it will adhere. I think that is the look for these things anyway.

I cleaned mine really well, and then painted them with BBQ paint. I didn't sand them, as the surface was irregular enoough to get good adhesion.

The BBQ paint works rather well and some of it comes as a matte finish....read the can.

I have the silver headers and the black pipes. It looks fine. On my car, you really can't see the headers that well anyway.

Thank you. I was thinking that same thing. Someone also told me they used the paint for a gas grill and it looked and worked great.
