Default Firefly ss side pipes

I am thinking to upgrade to firefly ss sidepipe but trying to justify the cost for sound quality and performance gain. Being in Hawaii, there is no one running with it for real life sound clip and testimony. Can those lucky firefly owner share some thought ? Thanks.

Mel,
You are running firefly sidepipes aren't you? What is your opinion of them in regard to performance, sound, and cost?
Maybe we can catch up sometime also...
Bob

Bullet, I've been on that video even before I got my ride. I've noticed those pipes doesnt sound like any others and I liked it. Is he running their headers? Are those 2.5" silencer ?

Andrew,
You have a PM. I contacted the owner of the black Superformance and he said to give him a call. He may still have a video of the chassis dyno at WOT.

Andrew - Just cancelled my trip to Hawaii, would have brought my car for you to test drive...LOL! Yes , Firefly is worth every cent. Built especially for SPF by a SPF owner and former Ford engineer.Like anything else...you can always find cheaper but if you want a unique sound that flows great and looks great then get Ron's pipes. Also look at his headers as mine where custom made to fit my Heads perfectly. Feel free to call me! MT

Bob, Happy New Year!! Been awhile since I made a breakfast . Saturdays have been a bear. Firefly side pipes are built very well. The collector design is much better than the Superformance one. Merge collector and no restrictions in the exhaust flow. Sounds 100% better at idle. I've been told at cruise speed that the Superformance ones are a little bit deeper in tone. Sounds great when you get on it! I heard stainless exhaust has a different tone. Is it worth the price, I think so

with respect to side pipes i caution that different pipes have different sounds, some are deep and throaty, like the stock spf, others are loud and crackling/poping sound like a top fuel dragster. stainless pipes will discolor to a brownish color quickly, yes it can be cleaned off but it comes right back.

True Maxx - They are crisp and do not have that muddy/dark sound and flow a million times better. Had my pipes since 2009 and had no issues w the discoloration. I've logged 12k miles and look like brand new! Most SPF guys in Detroit have these pipes too!

If they are stainless they turn a bronze color within 10 minutes up by the collector. I did not like the poppy sound crackling and echoing off everything. I took the stainless pipes I had on after 10 minutes and reinstalled the stock. I just get the stock receramic coated. Don't know if anyone in Hawaii does that though.

Poisonsnake

Look me up the next time you're planning to come to Oahu, again thanks for the feedback. I really do appreciate fine craftsmanship plus seat of the pant gain and Ron was very helpful with answering all my questions.

Maxxy - You should have left them on for more than ten minutes. Were they Firefly pipes? There is a break-in period with new stainless steel! Some people like the crisp sound...some don't! It's all a matter of opinion...heck some people don't like Cobra's ...imagine that fellow snake charmer! Andrew - Will do! Happy to hook up with you! Usually come your way once or twice a year. Hope you love your pipes as much as I do. It's a guaranteed show stopper! Get ready for a bigger crowd than you already draw! Serious!!!! Ron's a great guy!! Michael T.

I have an early set of pipes and the first sets of 351 headers for a Superformance. The pipes will go gold but will polish out if you want, I don't. Great sound but different than factory, more of a nasty crackle. I like them and others like the sound as well. They are art inside and out. Now about the performance that's what it is all about, Firefly is it hands down.

Poisonsnake, I fell in love with your exhaust note even before I purchased my cobra. It's great to get your feedback first hand. Ron was really helpful as well and pipes will be arriving soon.

The car I purchased has Firefly exhaust that are 2.5". Personally I like the deeper sound of the stock SPF pipes that are local to me but I'm not going to make a change. These pipes get loud at WOT but they are nice when cruising and haven't bothered my ears at all. They have been on the car a few years and have zero discoloring......mine have a strange look they appear to be a dull aluminum they are not shiny.
