slave cylinder for Contemporary Classics

Recently re-powered with a Chevy 454 and Termec 5 speed. After 800 miles lost the clutch because slave cylinder was mis-aligned. Looking for new Girling slave cylinder or a possible replacement.

Would appreciate comments and ideas for locating Girling cylinder.

Raybestos or EIS makes a slave cylinder that will work. Can be picked up at your local NAPA store. I assume this is external.

You can actually find the replacement Girling that is on your car at NAPA. Of course you will have to help them look through the various books--I did find it in one of their books; it just took a little while. And speaking to someone who can get past "what kind of car does it come on?" will help.

They also sell a seal rebuild kit, which I bought and it helped for a a few months.

In the end, I chose not to buy the Girling unit becuase it was way too expensive--I think close to $200. Instead I bought a CNC from an off-road store and made a bracket to use it instead. That unit worked great--no leaks.

Mr. Malone is correct, the CNC cylinder is a much better unit primarily because it has a retaining clip to keep the internal cylinder in place, the Girling does not and is prone to failure because of that.

I went with the CNC. It was almost a direct replacement for my "factory" unit which I think actually resembled something from a Chebbie truck. I needed to rebore the bracket for a slightly different hole spacing but the unit is really slick looking and replacement parts are cheap. I think for an extra $10 I got a rebuilt kit.

The Raybestos or EIS runs about $35.00. We have used and abused them for years without a hint of problem.
