Cobra Make, Engine: Scratch building frame,FFR Mkll body ,302w, and T5 trans, 3.0 rear.

IRS help

I have access to the IRS unit from an 89 Cougar with the 1.0 in dia axles my question is; is there a way to upgrade this unit to the 1.2 dia axle and spider gear or should I just look for the unit with the 1.2 Dia axles? Another question, will this unit(the 1.0 in) handle the power of a 250 hp 5.0 sbf ?
