Default Removing stuck Jaguar rear caliper bolts

I have the Jag rear removed from the car, and the axles removed from the center section. Even with all that done, the bolts holding on the rear calipers are far from easy to get to.

And, of course, old Murphy reared his ugly head, as usual - the darn bolts are stuck. All I can get on them is an open end wrench, a box end or socket won't fit. Trying to loosen them I can feel the corners of the bolts just starting to round off. I backed off before I did any damage to the heads of the bolts. Now - what to do? Anyone have any ideas?

The back side of the bolt holes into the aluminum calipers are blind, so even though I have them soaking overnight with penetrating oil I am less than optimistic that there will be any results from that.

Like Ross Perot, I'm all ears......

Heat from a propane torch works pretty well, without over doing it. Heat the ears on the calipers.

Default Small Hammer

767 Jockey Doug First off, get a 6 sided extra long wrench. Get a small hammer and tap on the location as close to the mounting point as possible. You are trying to SHOCK the bolt from the threads. If you can get 1 bolt out, you can spin the calpier assembly a little to loosen the other bolt. A little heat doesn't hurt either, just becareful not to have brake fluid come out of the caliper and catch on fire. I have seen this happen. NO, not me. Rick L.

767J -- slightly O/T, but I'll go ahead and mention that the ERA rear is really a joy to deal with. It is surprisingly simple in its design (but elegant nonetheless) and the outboard brakes are about as easy to deal with as you can get. There's about 50 lbs. in weight savings as well. It also eliminates the wheel hop issue too, if you just happen to have that bur under your saddle. I believe that ERA takes jag rears in trade, with boot of course, so you might want to consider it.

Damn, just realized you have a Contemporary, so you can just ignore this post.
