Default Sound System Install

I plan to add a sound system to my Backdraft over the holiday break. I purchased 2 (3.5'') speakers and an amp from Crutchfield which will reside in the trunk. The speakers will be mounted between the seats, on the wall separating the passenger compartment from the trunk. Does anyone know if this wall made of fiberglass or metal? If anyone has installed a sound system, I would love to hear any advice. Plan is to work the system via an I-Pod, therefore I will have a plug in the wall for the I-Pod cable. Plan to get the plug at Frys in LA this week

I would think that 2 31/2" speaks will not produce enough sound for a topless car let alone one w/ side pipes?

Nigel Tufnel: The numbers all go to eleven. Look, right across the board, eleven, eleven, eleven and...
Marty DiBergi: Oh, I see. And most amps go up to ten?
Nigel Tufnel: Exactly.
Marty DiBergi: Does that mean it's louder? Is it any louder?
Nigel Tufnel: Well, it's one louder, isn't it?

If by "sound" you mean volume, that will be more a product of the wattage of the amp and the sensitivity of the speakers, not their size.

Depending on the above, the 3.5" speakers may be plenty loud, but will probably not produce the best frequency response. Human hearing is 20 Hz-20,000 Hz. A 5.25" - 6.5" speaker would usually be needed to cover that range.

Having said that, I guess it's a little silly to comment on sound quality when discussing an installation in a Cobra, so crank 'em up loud and enjoy.

Since the Cobra is one of the worst scenarios for an audio system installation...

You might consider a panel that can be mounted temporarily to the roll bar, this will put the speakers close to your head (the amp could also be mounted to this panel). A quick connect plug for power could be located behind the seat.

When not in use the panel can be removed and stored in the trunk.
