T.I.T. help needed 10/10/09

OK guys, It is time for me to change the clutch in the Mustang. I will have it on jack stands, drop the tranny and bell housing. I have a transmission jack already and could use a few extra hands helping to get it done. I am planning on doing it this Saturday.

damdfw 10-04-2009 10:27 AM

maybe

I am on-call for work next weekend. I will plan on being there but I can't be counted on. I can get called in with no notice.

I may be able to help, I will know more as the week progresses.

Gonna be at Run N Gun, Joe. Use an alignment tool or an old input shaft to hold the clutch disk on center while you bolt up the pressure plate. Check the throw out bearing clearance from the diaphram (.15" - .30"). If it is a hyd bearing, be sure it is collapsed before measuring. Make sure the tranny is in neutral when you shove it up into the clutch. Don't force the tranny up. If it won't go up the last 1/2", you are not in the pilot bushing/bearing. You can crack the tranny housing and/or bend the clutch disc if you do this wrong. Ask me how I know ... Good luck!

Joe,
Do you know if your Mustang transmission has the same input shaft as a TKO 600? If so, I have an input shaft. It is the BEST alignment tool by far.

I do not know if it is the same or not. I will try to find out though. It is a Tremec 3650.

snakebittexan 10-05-2009 08:39 AM

I'm availble after 2:00.

Joe Wicked 10-05-2009 09:38 AM

I want to start about 9:00 AM so we can get it completed. Weather permitting the neighborhood is having a BBQ. Of course all who come are welcome to stay and join the evening festivities.

Snakebittexan, I will PM my number so you can give me a call. I will let you know if we are still going.

jshel1 10-07-2009 08:05 PM

What's the head count?

Joe,

Wish we had a few more heads in the game, but this weekend is actually better for me than next; I need to be out of there by noon though.

PM me address and cell phone.

Joe Wicked 10-08-2009 08:16 AM

Not a problem John. I will take whatever help I can get.

BTW for those that are coming, you will know you are at the right house when you see the Halloween decorations. It will stand out on the block.

snakebittexan 10-08-2009 09:27 AM

It looks as if you might be a bit short handed, I'll rearrange my schedule and see you around 9:00.

Richard

Clutch Surgery

Joe,

I need the address also, please. Please PM. also, are there any tools you need? Extra set of jackstands, etc.

JRoss 10-08-2009 11:30 AM

Sorry Joe,
Looks like I am out. Both the boys have an 11:00am soccer game at different fields across town. So I got one and Rae has the other.

John

jshel1 10-08-2009 05:06 PM

I can write a note to both Cody and Michael's soccer coaches, and Rae can sleep in. We will get Joe's clutch in for his evening at Redline and be done in time for the boys to come to the rescue in the second half. It will be just like in the movies.

Texas-Saluki 10-08-2009 07:40 PM

Only thing I can think of that might be needed is ratcheting box wrenches. I do not have any of those.

Thanks to all who are coming. I'll stock up on some beer and get us something to eat at minimum.

Joe Wicked 10-08-2009 08:36 PM

Richard,
You do not have to change your schedule. If it takes a bit longer that is fine with me. It may work out well as there is only so much room under the car and John has to leave at 12.

Bwana Snake 10-09-2009 08:16 AM

Joe,

Will try to make it out mid / late afternoon family hospital visit
Ft Worth in the morning.

Gary

Joe Wicked 10-09-2009 08:38 AM

Look forward to seeing you Gary if you can make it. I hope the visit is not too serious.

Madmiles442 10-09-2009 07:15 PM

Sorry Joe, I'm out tomorrow.
Replacing the radiator on the Acura tonight. 2 easy hours right? Hmmm. Not so much.
Well, the battery's out, fans are out, etc, etc. I'm freezing, it's dark and the car is in pieces. Will have to finish tomorrow.
Hope yours goes better than mine has so far...
