Default Anyone register a Cobra in Ellis County?

I just got my C/N 661 BDR Roadster running, and finished reading the confusing posts for title and registration in Dallas County, with the need for an "exemption/waiver inspection station," police inspection, and a VTR-68 and all, and wonder how it works here in Ellis County (Waxahachie).

I am inclined not to go ask at the Tax Assessor's office, because often asking is a way to hear unpleasant stuff you then have to comply with, when a simpler way exists I could learn here first. I know that because when I asked about the Cobra 2 years ago (when it was still sitting in my trailer) when renewing another car, they told me since the car was made in South Africa, I'd need US Customs Certificate, and it would have to pass a US DOT safety and emissions check, and would have to have all 2008 required safety equipment, and I KNOW that was wrong. They didn't write anything down, so I am assuming I will be starting fresh this time!

BTW, I have a BDR Cobra with the usual "1965 Replica" designation on the MSO.

Especially interested in what kind of sales tax I might have to pay, since some say 6.25% on rolling chassis price, and others say ZERO:
Texas registration - engine age.

I don't have a bill of sale from Backdraft, only the manual w/ the MSO made out in my name dated 5/21/08 when I picked up the car in Florida, and a Xerox of my cashier's check that I handed the folks down there for the rolling chassis. I handed them the check and they rolled my car into my trailer, and that was that; away I went.

I have a bill of sale for the new T-5 trans from Standard Transmission showing sales tax paid, and I am awaiting a bill of sale for my
engine from a machine shop in Washington State, from whence the engine came. I also am changing my insurance w/ Hagerty from "Paddock Insurance" to "Driving" insurance to get the insurance card.

I'd love to hear from anyone close to me whose been through this w/ the County folks! Reinventing the wheel is over rated!

Thanks,
Bob
