Default Texas Registration, TWO different situations

OK, I now have my insurance card, it reads:
1965 Cobra Replica
Going to try "jiffy Lube" type place, BUT I read that I may have to go to DPS waiver site.
Sam your post dated Nov 24 seems most clear, concice, and what I intend to follow.

Now, I realize, that each city/town/location/various office/various official don't all know/follow the same "rules", and that adds to the differences in how people have had differing processes in registering, so I'll just keep my finger crossed, and proceed step by step.

Now in reading/printing out all the links everyone has been so helpfull in providing, it's still not 100% clear to me, it is 99% clear, as people will post: "Here's what I did", or "Here are the steps I went through". But not making it clear in that particular post if their car is already registered, or it's a first time registered, with a lot of reading of their other posts one can usually determine that.

BUT, there seem to be two different processes:
#1. If you build the car yourself and it's being registered for the first time in Texas.
#2 If you bring an already assembled car from out of state, that is already registered in that state.

I won't even get into Antique registration.

Wow, I though Kalifornia was a tough process, now it appears Kalifornia is even easier than Texas(for first time newly built car).

#1 Stand in line at 5:00AM Jan 01, to get one of the SPCN 500 numbers
#2 Go to ANY inspection station, fail smog.
#3 Go to ANY HWY Patrol location, even a weigh station,(which is "best",
easiest, no appointment necessary) have car inspected.
#4 Go to DMV and get er registered.
