Default Found One and Ordered Inspection Today!

So a few months ago I asked friends of the family to go look at a cobra since it's 1500 miles from me. It turned out to be in great shape and drove exceptional. Here are a few details:

Factory Five built in 2006
302
T5
Ceramic Side Pipes
5 Lug Conversion
17" wheels
PS
PB

Well I ordered the inspection today and should have the feedback soon.

So the inspection came back as a 97.75 out of 100. Not to bad... Here is the summary on the negatives:

NO DAMAGE. NO TOP, NO WINDOWS, NO HEATER, NO RADIO. ENGINE BACKFIRES ON DECEL AND BETWEEN SHIFTS, VERY NOTICEABLE THRU SIDE PIPES. MAY BE A TIMING ISSUE, ENGINE HAS CARB INSTEAD OF FUEL INJECTION, MAY BE RUNNING RICHER THAN NORMAL. MOTOR SEEMS TO BE QUIET, NO MISSING AT IDLE OR REVING UP ENGINE. NO INNER DOOR PANELS WITH FIBERGLASS DOORS. EASY TO BURN LEG ON SIDEPIPES DURING EXIT OF VEHICLE.

So what do you think the backfire issue would be from?

Here is the overall summary:

DEFINITE FAIR WEATHER VEHICLE ONLY. POWER STEERING AND BRAKES. THE CLUTCH IS NOT HIGH PERFORMANCE AND DEPRESSES NORMALLY. SEEMS TO BE A POWERFULL VEHICLE.

Running rich, lean up the fuel mixture and it should solve the backfiring problem. There have also been some gasoline issues lately throw a bottle of octane booster in the gas tank.

Thanks... also reading more looks like it could be a header/side pipe exhaust issue too?

Thumbs up

Back firing on deceleration is generally a leaky side pipe to header collector issue. Could also be header to head but I'd look side pipe to header gasket/connection first.

Nice looking car!

I got a chuckle out of the inspection..."Seems to be a powerful vehicle"?? Really, what gave you the clue? Smoking, out of control rear wheels, spinning around really fast and making a lot of noise? LOL! I want to grow up to be an inspector someday! Looks like a great Cobra. Buy it and you will have fun fixing everything!

So this is not turning out the way I planned! We still can't seem to find a price that we are both comfortable at and he is raising the price when spring ends.
