Question The kit is CMC-Not Classic Roadsters!

Hey gang,

I have run across a decent (?) deal on a Classic kit. The guy says that they are out of commission(? Classic Roadsters still has a web site, was there a diff Classic?) but that 99% of the parts are there.

Just wondering if anybody had any input on these kits and/or knew if these guys, Classic, still existed or are the same as Classic Roadsters?

Give DoubleVenom (DV) or Don Scott a yell here on the forum, they are both very familiar with the CR Cobra.

As far as I know CR is still in business and manufacturing Cobras.

Greg,
Unless Classic went out of buiz in the last few days, they are still around. I think Classic puts out a quality product. It uses the mustang II front suspention config and the 8.8 rear out of the 79&up Mustang. As far as I know, the fiberglass is very good.(having dealt with a finished body and having talked with DV about it) The frame is really stout. The main rails are the rectangular type that are formed by a machine that bends them (Less welded seams that could fail), (I sure would like to see the machine that does that) The frame really has a production Quality to it not found on other cars. The body can be removed from the frame later on after the car is done if need be. (some can't) The wireing harness I have seen and delt with is of high quality. The kit should come with an assembly manual. The ones I have seen have a lot of pictures and information. As petec has stated, you really want to talk to DV. He has built many of these cars and knows them inside and out.
Good luck! let us know what you do!,

Cool

Steve,

I'm just north of downtown Houston.

I eyeball many cars, I'v been looking at the Cobra for approximately 5 to 6 years. That is how I came across Jay (Jayscobras) in Dallas. Jay had posted on one of the cobra site's, His Classic Roadster for sale. It was a real beauty, white exterior and if I remember correctly with a Silver Stripe, 302, stunning in appearance.
When I contacted Jay, in regards to his white Cobra, the car had been sold.... Jay, had another Classicroadster for sale, big block, blue exterior. I prefer small block's and less common colors like: white, green.... I don't know how many Cobra's he's built, he's very knowledgable in all cobra replicas.
He lives/sleeps Cobras.....

I don't know any Flores's in NJ, but you never know.

I did see the Cobra ad in the Houston Chronicle, it ran for about 2 or 3 weeks. I'm not looking to buy at the moment, so I did not followup on the ad. Maybe I'll call tomorrow. If still available and a deal, I might become motivated to buy.

Guy's, I'm on a mission, trying to incourage the new GT40 Concept into production, if you get a chance. I would appriciate your support at thread:

Default Thanks for the info

That's what I thought, so, unless this guy has his mfg mixed up... I'll give DV a shout.

Colleyville, lies between Dallas and Ft. Worth, just WestNorthWest of DFW.

Thanks guys,

greg

GREG IF YOU ARE TALKING TO THE GUY WITH THE AD IN THE PAPER FOR A CLASSIC FOR $7,500 IT IS NOT A CLASSIC ROADSTERS KIT BUT A CLASSIC MOTOR CARRIAGES OUT OF FLORIDA. ALL I CAN SAY IS BEWARE. RUN A SEARCH ON THIS SITE. THEY WERE INTEGRITY, THEN CLASSIC MOTOR, THEN CMC, THEN EVERYTHING ELSE, THEN INNOVATIVE STREET BEASTS, NOW STREET BEASTS. RUN!!! RUN, LIKE THE WIND!!!!!

Default That's what I was looking for

Jay,

Now that you mention it, he did say something about Street Beast. And yea, that's the one that I was talking about. So, not such a good buy huh?

You know, I'll do a search, but I think that I have just been the reciepient of one of the greatest benefits there are of this forum. Knowledge. And knowledge is power.

Thanks Jay, and to everyone who makes this forum what it is.

I have a CMC kit. They will make a nice car, but many, many details have to be changed to make a decent, safe car out of them. Most every step is like re-inventing the wheel. A lot of pieces don't fit correctly, and some items are down-right "Cheesy". Maybe I am too critical and picky! I would not buy another. Unfortunately, it was the only cobra kit I could afford at the time. Later, David.

Exclamation

Ernest,
I have a friend who had Jay build his car. I'm sure he would be glad to share his experience with you. Shoot me an E-mail for his phone #. As a matter of fact, I could probably arrange to have you come over and take a look! The body is off the car now, so I think you would find it real interesting and educational.

If the kit you are looking at is indeed a CMC, then I agree, RUNNNNN!!!!! In my opinion, they are 100% junk! I built a Lone Star and I am in the process of helping my neighbor build a CMC that he got a "good deal" on. The CMC is trash... NOTHING fits! We have been working on it for over a year and the body is just now starting to fit. IF you are a wizzard at fiberglass work and cutting and welding then it might not be too bad. The Lone Star was a breeze to build. I can provide a phone number if you need more details.

Good Luck,
Randy
