Press Release

I emailed TV Channels 7, 8, 24, 36, and 42 with the following press release - media announcement. I'll report back if anyone responds.

------------------------------------

Press Release - Media Announcement

Introduction: In the early 1960's, a brash Texan by the name of Carroll Shelby envisioned an automotive marriage between a European sports car & the American V-8. By dropping a lightweight small-block Ford V-8 engine into the chassis & aluminum body of a British AC Ace 2-seat roadster, Shelby created a car that would dominate the racing circuits of the era & change the face of automotive history forever. In it's heyday a Shelby Cobra had no equal on the track. This early 289 FIA Cobra was refined & evolved throughout the 60's & the final version was a thundering, fire breathing, take-no-prisoners, flare fendered, big block 427 S/C Cobra roadster, which is today regarded as the very essence of brute automotive power. The 427 Cobra S/C is still considered to be the fastest production street car ever sold in America.

Today, the Texas Cobra Club (TCC) celebrates the spirit of the Shelby Cobra by sharing a passion for this legendary race car. Club members from all across Texas build, customize, race & drive Shelby Cobra replicas from one of several replica manufacturers.

Several times a year, area & statewide events are hosted to get together & raise the hoods, check out the newest additions, talk shop & generally share the fun & fellowship of other Cobra enthusiasts. It's also a real kick to watch the heads turn & the jaws drop when 50 or 60 Cobras rumble down the road. For more information on the Texas Cobra Club, feel free to follow the links on the web site to view photos & learn more about past gatherings, upcoming events, current members & their Cobras.

2003 Austin Spring Meet: The TCC is having their fourth annual spring meet here in Austin on February 22nd (Saturday) at the Origin Systems parking lot located on 5918 West Courtyard Drive adjacent to Capitol of Texas High Way (Loop 360) bridge. The time of this event will start at 9:30am until 12:00 noon. A planned cruise through the Texas Hill Country including the Devil’s Backbone and Canyon Lake to the Gristmill in Gruene will begin at 12:00 noon. This year we are expecting 80+ Cobras and 200+ members, families, and friends to attend.

Every year we invite the TV media to attend our yearly event. If you would like more information please contact:

Sounds good Ed. See ya'll in a few weeks. By the way, I hate to advertise on this venue, but hey, I figure some of you might be interested. I started a new business venture last month. Feel free to take a look at www.recreationalrentals.net when you get a chance. I hope to be very busy especially this summer.

Texas Highways Magazine - Maybe?

Ed and all - I have been trying to pitch Cobras and the Texas Cobra Club Annual Austin event to Texas Monthly Magazine and Texas Highways Magazine since last fall.

The Texas Monthly guy was very interested, but never could generate any interest from the senior editors. By a coincidence covering something else, he was in Pittsburg, TX during the SCAT - Texas 289 in October and knows the excitement these cars generate. He may stop by and visit at Origin.

Texas Highways Magazine - this would be a natural for them with the Carroll Shelby connection to Texas. I would think Cobras would be more interesting and better photographic interest than the pickle festival they sometimes feature. Texas Highways said they are going to send a photographer by and take a few shots, but no promise as to an upcoming article. Maybe we need to start an e-mail campaign to Texas Highways Magazine and Texas Monthly Magazine and get the ball rolling. Another idea would be for one of us to write a freelance story and submit an article with photos. Anybody?;)

Magazines Contacted

Dick; I emailed both the Texas Monthly and Texas Highways Magazines with our press release. Who knows, somebody might show an interest.

Ed Csoltko 02-03-2003 08:33 PM

Better Image Please

Dick; You might want to replace that photo of the guy in a nightgown on the front page of the TCC web site since the press release introduces the TCC web page. It doesn't give us a professional image to present to the media (MHO).

My hat off to you Ed 1

Nice job Ed you ould think some magazines would like a picture of me and all the Cobras roaring in Austin but I guess there to busy with what you would call the FAST AND Furious rice crap and junk but what the hell we love it thats all that matters .

Attaboy Ed!!

Ed,
Great job, as usual! It really would be nice to have some of the local television stations cover us at the Origin garage, but I would not want the job of running the "gate" at the top with all the (hopefully) public interest we should draw this year. I doubt anyone coming just to look will have any idea what sort of traffic jam we are going to have on the top two floors............but what a GREAT problem to have!
The Austin team has really done a good job again this year, as usual!!
See you guys in 17 DAYS!!!!!!!!!!!**) **) **) **) **) **) **)

We Got a Nibble!

Sounds like we might have a photographer from one of the magazines attending our morning gathering to shoot some pictures.:3DSMILE:

They also requested a cruise map which I forwarded to them.**)

-------------------------------

ED,

Got it! That'll be a nice route--I drive 2244 and 3238 every day to/from work. ...

I'm going to plan on shooting this, barring complications on the home front--it should be fun!

NICE JOB ED

ERA600hp 02-05-2003 03:57 AM

Hey Ed

How about Texas Cruisin Time Magazine, I've contacted then over the past years, with no responce.

But I don't have the gift to BS or communicate with them, why don't you send them a copy of your press release!!

You know that they sponsor the cruise in Houston every month!!

Let me know what you think, I think that they have a web site, like cruisin Time . com, not sure, something like that!!

How about Texas & Oklahoma Car shows. com

Morning Gathering??

Ed,
Are you referring to the gathering at the Origin garage on Saturday morning? I think that would really be cool!
It just keeps getting better and better, especially when we are only 16 days away!!
John Russell

YEE HAAAAAAA.............

Blake Olson 02-05-2003 08:29 AM

Ok,

I heard back from my buddy @ KEYE News in austin...here's what he said:

Blake:

Thanks for the information. I put it in our files for that day.I do not see any reason why we cannot send a photographer out to get some video. I am also coping in the person that is working the Assignment Desk on that day to make sure everyone is in the loop.

Take care,
Mike

Ed,Dick & Blake,

I have forwarded this thread to my cousin in Austin.

Besides being a free lance photographer,he has/is doing shoots for Texas Highways among others.

I'll let you know if he has any news on what Texas Highways plans are.

SilverCobra 02-05-2003 09:32 AM

Texas Highways

I received an e-mail from Michael Murphy this morning and I believe that he is the photo editor for Texas Highways Magazine. He is planning on attending the Origin gathering and shooting some pics...also bringing his 15 year old son it appears.

Fred, tell your cousin to put in a good word for us. Non-car people or non-Cobra people sometimes sometimes have a hard time understanding the interest and excitement these cars generate. Like I said in an earlier post, there has been some interest from some Texas Highways and Texas Monthly writers/photographers, but not enough to "sell" the senior editors to move forward.

I hope that Michael shoots a bunch of pictures and is able to see the really fun environment at TCC Austin and is able to "sell" the editors to do an article with photos. I guess we will just have to see how things play out.
