2003 Dallas Convoy- February 21st.
Gentlemen,
As in prior years, we will again meet in Cedar Hill at Hwy 67 and 1382. Based upon the consensus of opinion from our Monthly meeting, will set arrival time at 9:15 am, with the drop dead departure at 10:00am, sharp. This parking lot is located on the NW corner, and a large majority of us will be there at 9:am. More info to follow!! John R. |
Cool...I will plan on being there at 8am to eat at IHop...can't wait just 11 more days to go :)
Matt |
Matt, You did that last year!!
Hey Matt,
I thought you did that last year also?? I am going to get Bobby W. to attach the map again just like he did last year. I am- currently- planning to get there early again, so I will meet you there. I had to go to Waxahachie on Saturday afternoon, and there is NO place to meet on I35 south with easy entrance/exit due to all the construction. Also, if anyone else has Talkabout style radios, please remember to bring them. John R. |
Do you mind if an Okie joins the convoy? How many trailers are you expecting?
Clois |
Come on down Clois you are welcome to convoy with us since you are part of the Dallas group :)
John you are correct...Gary and I usually come down together and stopped for breakfast the last 2 years. Matt |
Map & Directions
Coming from I-20 and Hwy 67 in southwest Dallas county, go approx 5.8 miles south on Hwy 67 into Cedar Hill.
Exit at FM1382, and turn right (west), go about 300 feet, and turn right into the parking lot just past the Whataburger - in front of K-Mart/Krogers. There is plenty of room for all Cobras and trailers. http://us.i1.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/us/mp/gr/mplogo.gif Map of 235 E Fm 1382 Cedar Hill, TX 75104-2147 |
Hey, we EXPECT you to join us!!
Clois,
We have been planning on you coming down with us from the get-go! We will get a map posted within the next few days, and we "just might" decide to miss all the construction on I35 by heading South on 67 to Midlothian(6 miles), then South on Hwy. 287 to Waxahachie to pick up I35 to Austin. This would allow us to miss all that #&**#^ construction between Dallas & Red Oak. Just a thought to ease the pain, maybe. John R. :3DSMILE: |
John,
Hwy 287 between Midlothian and I-35 is also a construction nightmare.. they are widening from a two-lane to a four lane divided. Anneliese and I are going to go spend Valentines Day at the historic Rogers Hotel in downtown Waxahachie this weekend, so I will check out the condition of Hwy 287 and report back next week. The other option would be to take hwy 67 south to Alvarado and get on I-35W. Its really about the same distance either way. But whichever way will definitely avoid the NIGHTMARE of I-35E through Desoto. |
Good deal John,
We will leave from this part of town and hook up up you in Hillsborough like we did last year. We will call everyone and figure out about what time everyone will get to 35W & 35E. Last year it was about 11:20 11:30 if I remember correctly. Ferrari Killer Steve Parks |
I-35 West
I agree with Mr. Worley & vote for the Alvarado route. Looking att the map from Midlothian to Hillsbrough, it is the same distance (I35E or I35W) and we might as well miss the construction mess on HWY 287. I guess the highway dept is taking their sweet time. It was all messed up this time last year.:( So where is the IHOP? Who is driving? Who is trailering? Still working on a trailer myself???
|
Alvarado it is!!
Boy, it's great when a plan comes together!
Hey Bobby, can you please attach a map for the parking lot like you have done in past years? I'm guessing about a dozen or so trailers & 6 or 7 drivers, but all I can really be sure of is me.......driving & Bobby navigating,. I will let the rest of the bunch chime in. Also, I have two Motorola Talkabout radios, & if you got 'um, bring 'um. John R. |
Guys,I will leaving from the southern part of Dallas County on Friday the 21st. I can meet up with you guys in Hillsborough. Where is the meeting place and time in Hillsborough?
Ronnie Tucker |
Steve: We'll follow you guys.
All: I read something about radios. What freqs will everyone be using for communications? Boudy |
Boudy,
Basically they are hand held two way radios. Tom usually picks a frequency number the day of departure after checking for clarity. If you dont have one, we got ours at Cosco, The Cobra microtalk model. I think I saw them at Walmart as well. We have an extra but it does not have the subchannels and it is not rechargeable. It uses AA bateries. If you buy one be sure to get the ones that have the subchannels. They are a little better and sometimes we use those. Ferrari Killer Steve Parks |
The Houston group likes to use channel 4, sub channel 27:cool:
|
Steve: I'll grab some this weekend.
I also noticed the change in your decription. "Humm.... a Kirkham or two sounds nice!" Just make sure you don't blame me. Boudy |
Long story. Too many two cobra families in the Dallas area. If you can't beat em, join em.

Friday AM weather
The 24 hour forecast is not looking too promising for a dry commute from Dallas to Austin. Not a problem for the enclosed trailer guys, but I think there are a handful of drivers (no top) (Orsini, Captain Speed) and open trailer guys like me. If it is raining frogs at 8:00, I will probably wait and see if it will clear a little before I try to load and head out. What about you other guys?
|
Wimps!
My buddy from Hurst (Ray Russell) is heading to Austin right now. Now that's what I call a "Die Hard Cobra Dude".
|
I'm with you Dick, I'd rather do the drive when it's not raining...Hopefully the thunderstorms will pass us by, but right now the weather doesn't look too promising for either Dallas or Austin Friday AM. Maybe a second caravan once things clear up.
