Sounds like you are hooked up with Don in TX.

I just went through the search as Hagerty went up $300/year and dropped the liability to nothing.

Interesting....Grundy said they would insure my car?

I ended up with American Hobbyist (suggested by a Clubcobra member).

State Farm is a selective thing....if the agent and regioanl manager want to deal with it they will. I got jacked around in Michigan....started at $400/year..ended at $900+/6 months.

yea...just noticed the bottom line on the liability with Hagerty as well!

They are only covering $15,000 on liability!

Heck...even if a P.O.S. hits you or you hit them...that can be easily exceeded.

I guess this WILL force me to get a different policy/company.

Wolfman,
I have 2 Classic Roadsters with American Family. I just have comp. on both now with the rotten weather. When it warms up I'll go with liability. Liability is 17.00/month on each and comp is 8.00/month. The trick is to find an insurance guy that will let you do this. Most want consistant coverage year-round. Also do you want to insure for appraised value? If so...this will cost you more. Both cars are considered a Ford Cobra to American Family. This keeps my rates lower. Now is the kicker......I don't drive my cars more than 500 miles/year so I don't feel the odds are against me. I also built both so if I have an accident....my fault....I could repair the damage. I have never been much on auto insurance but maybe this may help!!! Also if this interests you remember...If your are towing your cobra the pull vehicles insurance does not cover whats on the trailer just the trailer!!!

Forget about Parrish-Heacock, after 6 years of paying premiums and never putting in a claim they raised my rate 60%. Grundy would not return my calls or E-mails.

I'm 56 years old, I have training at Skip Barber and Bertil-Roos. I got my last ticket in 1967 (43MPH in a 35 MPH zone). I have a 351 SPF. If I can't get insurance, Who can?

Looks like I am 80% decided on who I am going with on the insurance this year.

It looks like most want some good pics and at least some sort of appraisal. This is becoming a real challenge here in a medium size town in Texas (100,000+). It seems nobody does car appraisals besides accidents/new cars and I am not comfortable with online quotes from some generic classic car appraiser that doesn't deal with kit cars/replicas and specifically knows the market for cobras.

Does anyone have a good contact for an over the phone/email/online appraisal service that they have used for a good appraisal of their prized cobra??

I am pretty sure an in person appraisal is going to be too expensive or impossible due to the location of my residence in Texas.

I'm sorry...I'm in Abilene and one of only 2 cobra guys here.

The other guy I rarely see and don't even see him drive it but once or twice a year.

I am leaving town in a couple of days on an extended business trip and can't expect the wife to be able to take it out of town for a personal once over. I may have a single lead here in town but will let everyone know tomorrow if it works out or not.

Cool It all depends on the agent

AllState gives me no grief at all knowing my Cobra is not my primary everyday-to-work vehicle and I do not have a bad driving record. AllState has not placed any limits on coverage for me. My Cobra is insured no different than a production sports car. My Cobra is insured for full replacement cost. All the agent wants is a picture, a parts lists and paint/labor cost (essentually a turn-key pricelist). I tend to think that it is up to the agent whether or not (or at what level) to insure the car for the person's driving habits.

I have not had any experience with other insurance companies, and would change insurance companies if I were treated in the ways you describe.

I have had good luck with Grundy and am only 30 years old! I pay about $560 a year for $50,000 worth of coverage. Deductible is zero and there is no mileage limit.

Default American Hobbyiest - beware

I've been pushing American Hobbyist - but NO MORE.

Three long phone calls with them reviewing the policy, driving records, etc.

Sent in my applicaiton and money...2 weeks later got it back with a denied. I have 1 ticket, 5 over, 2 years ago in my civilian car. They knew that up front. Even wrote exclusions for my kids.

What a waste of time.

Sorry to you guys that I referred to them.

No more referrals.....

Jeff

$900 with 100 deductible and $640 with $500 deductable. Highest liability and other Michigan charges.

Appreciate the note.

I spoke with Grundy yesterday re: insuring my Cobra. I threw in two other cars to see what they came up with; others:'32 Model A streetrod, and '83 Ferrari. Total quote for all three was under $1100.00 with $100K liability. Cobra was about $340, Streetrod was about $250, and Ferrari was about $540. Go Figure!

How is your car classed with Allstate. I want to give my agent a call.

I have been with Allstate for 22 years for my normal vehicles. I have checked prices at other places (recently state farm) but never able to come close to the rates of Allstate. I wanted to check out State Farm in my area and switch all cars over including Cobra. They would not do the cobra becase it was a replica (not original) and the prices for my three other vehicles was $300 more per year.
