Insurance
Need recommendations. Am ready to insure, inspect, and license FFR2645 (Long build, long story).
Tried K & K and learned they aren't offering new policies in TX.
Tried USAA (other cars insured there) and they will provide liability but not comprehensive -- not good.
They referred me to an affiliate that would provide Classic Car coverage with a 2,500 mile limit and no one who has had a drivers license less than 10 years could drive it. I don't like those limitations much.
Have called State Farm and am still talking with them, but right now they are balking because one of the cars we own was involved in two minor accidents before we even owned it -- go figure.
My wife, daughter and I have had no moving violations in the last three years and no accidents where we were at fault. My wife was rear-ended (no jokes guys) by an FBI agent and the US paid the claim. Her car was also backed into by someone backing out of a driveway when our car was legally parked on a residential steet while she and our daughter were visiting someone -- the other person's insurance paid.
Anyway, to make a long story less long, who are y'all insured with that you would recommend?
Thanks.

You may want to try Grundy Worldwide. I have some friends who are really happy with them, two '70s Mustangs and a Pantera. You can get an online quote at www.grundy.com. You're about 6-8 months ahead of me, my kit is on order, hope to pick it up soon and get started. Congratulations and good luck.

Great American has my policy. Rates went up almost 30% this year, 3000mi./yr. limit. Full appraised value. Unfortunately, there are fewer and fewer choices when it comes to insuring these cars.

Grundy said they would not insure new cobra policies.

Forgot to mention, State Farm was unlimited miles and the only other restriction was I needed to store it in garage at night.

Kobra Karl forgot to mention that the 2500 mile insurer was American Collector's Insurance at toll free 1.800.360.2277. They have some sort of agreement through USAA.

It all depends on the Agent
AllState gave me total replacement value coverage on my Lone Star Classics Cobra kitcar, no limitations whatsoever. All the agent wanted in his files was the list of parts with associated cost, painting costs, and hours of labor --- essentually a detailed turnkey pricelist. If replacement costs go up, all that is needed to raise the insured amount is an updated pricelist.
For fun and games, I called GEICO and found out that since Birkshire-Hathoway purchased them, they will insure anything, incuding kitcars with police radar detectors!!! (But they are not the lowest in rates)...

call "Dan the Man" Hardiman, won't hurt!
Here's my suggestion,
Call Dan Hardiman @903-597-5700 as listed above. I have been with Dan since I bought my car 3 1/2 years ago and have been extremely happy. He is a member of the TCC and a Cobra owner as well, and many here in Texas have been very happy with his service and his company. They do ask that you place at least one other vehicle with them within a year, and when we moved our other two cars we saved $400 on them AND the Cobra also dropped almost in half!
Try him out, as I have found him to be a worthwhile resource for our Club and also a friend.

Boy...man oh man what is going on with our insurance guys!?!
I have been calling around getting quotes this morning.
This is what I found out:
Heacock - no longer does cobras
Classic collectors Ins - just got a letter stating no more cobras
J.C. Taylor - doesn't cover TX
Grundy - confirmed no more cobras
It seems if Texas is getting really slim on the variety of companies that will insure a cobra replica in the state!
I did find Rally Ins Group that gave me a better quote than the current Hagerty that I have now.
I sure hope that we can come together as a group and form some sort of professional organization that the insurance companies recognize to remedie the current trend of accidents, thefts, etc that are driving these companies in rising prices and even dropping our coverage.

John,
Yep...I'm already on it...just waiting back to here from him. Just thought I would post what I had learned up to this point and share with all.
The thing with Dan's policy is that they expect you to have at least one vehicle (other than the cobra) insured with their State Farm policy service within 6 months...kind of a reward/incentive thing for a multi-coverage customer.
I am looking around since USAA doesn't really have a good "stated value" policy for the cobra but hate to give up there other great service just for the cobra.

I "wrasled" with the insurance issue on my Kirkham, and was amazed. With State Farm 20 years, no claims filed.
Me: 52, married, no kids at home, perfect driving record.
State Farm: Sorry, we thought we wrote policies on "kit cars" but we don't. Oh, you have proof of agents that do otherwise? Can we see the policies? Well, ok, but only up to $XX,000 in value. Yours is more valuable than that limit? Well, we tried!
Parish: Not writing Cobra policies
Grundy: Ditto, sorry. (Sent me a nice letter, though)
JC Taylor: Sorry, not writing policies in TX, check back.
Condon/Skelly: Ditto to JC Taylor
Hmmmmmm.......
Finally called Voyager and secured an excellent policy. They were very professional, located in Frisco, and it was all handled very easily.
